| Looks like I will be jumping into the line as senior deacon in a couple of months. Exiting, but intimidating to say the least... Any good memorization techniques to share? |

I am doing that right now, went in as SD last fall. Names, repeat at least three times and really look at the person, get it into the deeper memory.
Practice, if your lodge has regular practice nights, go. If there is a school of instruction, go. Visit other lodges and watch. For speaking parts in degrees give some emotion and energy to the work. Where possible I talk with my hands. A physical movement with the words helps. You will make mistakes, the world will not end. In our lodge unless there is a catastrophic error we roll with it. Stopping and repeating things can spoil a degree. We discuss our mistakes and clarify for the candidate if necessary after the degree. I would take SD again, but the incoming WM has other designs. |

in our lodge, it is tradition to "lip sync" everything being spoken. that way, when you are in that seat, you're almost ready. As long as you do it quietly. |
