A recent thread discussed this. Any amount is theoretically not enough should a massive outbreak occur. Pretend, however, you are in this scenario:
You live in a suburb on the outskirts of a large metropolitan area in a nice little house, defensible as any other house would be (i.e. no 10ft stone walls, wire, etc) surviving entirely from the grid. You have all of the weapons you may currently have at home + your current ammo. It is generally agreed that "bugging in" is not a permanent solution––whether it's 2 days or 2 months, because of your location you will have to leave. You have a bug out location reachable by vehicle within 4-5 hr drive under normal traffic conditions. Assume you have to bug out via foot or bicycle 1) what guns do you take? 2) how much ammo? keep in mind you need supplies for a 250-300 mile journey and you also need to carry food/water/protection for zombie relations/etc ––The point I'm trying to make is that having 100K rds "at home" seems laughable. You can't use them for fear of attracting more zombies and you can't take it all with you. (I already have much more than I could carry, and I'm sure this is much less than many here have) Thoughts? |

Gosh, this is a tough one. I am not expert at all. But here goes. 1. Two rifles - A rifle for 308 and another for 223 in an AR platform 2. 2 pistols at least 9mm 3. A shotgun would be nice 4. 10K rounds of ammo - a mix for all of your guns Much of this is based on how bad things are and assuming you are carrying your family of four. In this scenario, the best thing to do is for families to team up and work together on supplies, protection and such. Going it alone "rambo style" is just for the movies. If things are bad and you are riding alone on a bicycle, you will be worm food very fast. If you really are by yourself walking for 300miles. Then a AR-15 223 caliber with 2k rounds and a least a 9mm pistol with 500 rounds and hope I can carry enough food and water to get me to the next water hole/creature to eat for food. Oh yeah, watch out for the zombies. |

Bug out location should have supplies prepositioned:food, ammo, firearms, medical supplies, etc.
On foot I would take an AR-15, tactical vest, glock 17, Ruger MKII .22LR pistol, bug out bag. Ammo wise I say 100 rounds for glock, 500 rounds of .22LR, and around 400 rounds for AR. Engagements would be absolutely last resort. Escape and evade while enroute to bug out location. By vehicle. Same as above with the addition of as much food, water, and ammo as vehicle will carry. |
