I was talking about this with a friend of mine and wondered what you all thought. He doesn't much care for the idea.
I think that they would work really well to protect yourself when you are on foot during a zombie uprising. The mesh jackets anyways. The mesh jackets aren't all that heavy, they can protect your skin as you grind accross the pavement at over 100mph, the aren't that restrictive and the mesh ones are breathable. I think that they give you everything you need as far as PPE goes... What say you guys? |

I've seen lots of pics of mesh riding gear after get offs. It's shredded. I have no doubt a Zombie would find it a mere inconvenience. A good sturdy leather jacket with the internal armor would be quite a bit better. |

I'm going to have to disagree with you brother, because I have done it... It did wear but the in one spot the "armor", and a shirt underneath saved my skin. I hit the interstate at about 90 and no place that my jacket covered had a scratch. I got all sorts of fucked up but my skin under my jacket was fine.
To counter it being an inconvenience, I think that it would give you more than enough time to react and destroy the attacker. Also a leather jacket down here in the summer I think would be a big disadvantage in terms of sustainability while on the run... I agree that it would work better but damn that thing would be hot! |
| How about those Kevlar Pantsthat they advertise. I always thought they would offer good protection (if they work) and dexterity. |

I haven't heard anything about these but jeans work alright on a motorcycle. In the ZA, those pants couldn't hurt though! Jeans will do me well till I can loot cycle gear |

The kevlar jeans are Kevlar reinforced, and again, better than nothing, but do not compare to leather. Blue jeans last less than a millisecond. You just need to decide what your skin is worth. When I hunt zombies, I am ATGATT (all the gear, all the time) Mark |

Because of the lack of motor skills and the slow decomposition of the flesh, zombie bites would be less forceful than those of living humans.
The main concern would be getting swarmed and having them pull the clothes away and exposing your flesh. A one-piece racing suit should be more than enough bite protection in a meelee with the undead so long as you don't get taken to the ground. Even denim would be more than enough. |

OTOH zombies have no sense of pain and no inhibitions. Wounds from zombies are going to be more like pig bites than dog bites. Expect large avulsions of mouthfuls of flesh at a time. These types of wounds bleed fast and are quickly disabling. Even with kevlar and leather zombies will cause crushing wounds and probably bite off chunks that stay inside the protective garments. Hard armor may well be needed. |

I plan on have all plastic stuff Like what is used for basic Protection inn Soccer etc but enough to cover an Arm/leg Silly but a Star Wars Tropper suit might work great (If you could see) Whole trick is to keep from getting bitten not stopping a bullet valid point there, kinda gave me the image of the kid on super troopers licking the window, so long as there is nothing that can be gripped with a human mouth you should be fine on that front just watch your fingers! |
I have this jacket and it is super heavy duty. Expensive, but how bad do you want to avoid getting bit?

Look, you need to find something thats made to protect against teeth, not asphalt.
For the time being, we've got engineers who can steer you in the right direction. Teeth biting in and asphalt scraping against, are not the same thing. The best anti-zombie suits are those made by qualified anti-zombie engineers. |

I'd like to see a zombie chew through PVC pipe.
My ideal zombie suit would be made from all pvc pipe. Somewhat like a geeky storm trooper suit.
Throw in a little aluminum chainmail for the joints. Chainmail:

PVC is brittle and dangerous. What you should use is large plastic barrels (HDPE).
something like what Dark Victory Armoury is making. Anyone with a barrel, some cord, a jigsaw, and a drill can knock one of these out in a couple of hours. |

| i belice plastic and chain mail or eve nust chain mail may be the ticket. as zombies may not feel pain and they may bite like pigs, but they dont have teeth like pigs, i think a full force bite on chain mail or on serious bridal or belting leather that is stiff not soft would break the teeth of the walking dead before it would take chunks of skin off under the armor |
| There are leggings for snake bite for those that walk through the under brush. They are very lightweight but tough and could easily be used for zed attacks. They are used mainly in warm areas where snake bite would be a problem so they would not be as hot to wear. The various types are reinforced nylon to all out solid plastic. A similar type for forearms would be an addition...leather inside of collars and other areas needing more protection could be added to gear. Leather would about kill me in the humid heat of florida summers. A mesh covering integrated into cloth would work for a base suit. |
