| I would do rainwater storage, but it's 'illegal' here supposedly. A good option is a supply of lifestraws. |

most of the folks with all that survival knowledge are hanging out in the Outdoors, Survival Discussions sub forum.
For the most part, they are trying to deal with 'reality' when discussing preps. With the Zombie apocalypse, all bets are off. You are talking forever, not just short term issues. Learn how to make a fire, and boil water. |

For those of you who plan on bugging in, whats your plan for fresh water? Whats your storage and filtration setup like? Post up! I currently have 165gal of rainwater storage. Currently it is filtered automatically upon entry into the barrels, and it is rotated via using the water to irrigate my lawn and refilled on the next rain storm. It takes 1" of rain to fill the barrels. I have 40gal of stored pottable watter in a mixture of 1gal and 5gal jugs. I have a 40gal hot water heater. I have 2 100gal emergency water bags that go into your tub. You put the bag in the tub and fill the bag with water. These are contingent on my ability to fill the bags before the water stops flowing. I have 4 1qt bottles of betadyne iodine for chemical purification of collected water (including my rain water if needed). Also doubles as a disinfectant if needed. Since I am caring for myself and my fiancee, I only have 2 mouths to feed/water. With what I have we should be able to last 75 days on my current water storage utilizing 3gal a day. We can go much longer via rationing the water. In that amount of time I would hope my rain water collection system would have refilled itself at least once, adding another 27 days. That means I should be able to last 90 days without trying too much. By that point I only live 10mi from a 645,000 acre lake. I should be able to draw water from there for a while. I plan on improving this by adding 2 filters (one for me and my fiancee) and a hand pump for water transfer. But I do think I have the water situation nailed down fairly good. |

With a little inginuety one can easily make a distillery for water I have with a metal pot, tin foil, and some copper piping a few years back. We made piss, marsh water, and whatever other liquids we could find into drinkable water This is going to sound silly, but just like you can have "constructive intent" to build an AR-15 into an SBR or Machine Gun by owning a collection of certain parts. You can likewise have "constructive intent" to manufacture illegal (un-taxed) liquor if you own sugar, yeast, water and a still. Not saying the BATFE would do anything, but if you have an enemy there they could make your life miserable. |

I have drained my water heater several times and can honestly say the floor stayed completely dry. It purposely sits 12" off the ground for this very reason. Same here, my heater is on a 18" stand. I can put a hose onto the outlet and turn on the drain like a faucet and fill pots, glasses, buckets, etc without spilling a drop. |
