My friend called me around 3:00 p.m. (PST) and told me that his Rott had been run over by his sons friend's Harley.
They drove screaming dog 30 minutes to the nearest vet and are being seen.  Haven't heard an update.  So far, from the outside, it looks
like the right leg might be broken.

The dog's name is Spirit.  She's still a pup (about 5 months or so old), but is a tough dog.  Even killed a few rattlesnakes on their property.  She brought them as gifts to my
friend and his family.  Crazy dog.

Please keep her in your prayers if you would.

Thanks all.

Got an email from my friend ––––

"She has the worst possible fracture a dog can get, both horizontal and vertical.  The vet surgeon said that surgery would give her a 90% chance of living a normal dogs life, but it would be 3-4 months of recovery.  Surgery would cost $800.00

The vet called and she scheduled surgery for tomorrow morning at 9:00 am.  The surgery requires pins and wires, yeah, its that bad.  The dog is in pain, not as much since she is under very powerful medication to numb the pain."

I'll keep you updated.  I'm a little surprised that they weren't told to leave the dog at the vet.  OUCH!!

Spirit is home for the night on some powerful pain meds.
Looks like she's scheduled for surgery tomorrow morning between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.

My friend sent me a couple of pictures of the poor girl.    Thank you for the prayers.

Update:

Surgery WAS scheduled for noon on Tuesday.  They didn't start it until around 3:00 p.m.  Apparently it was a much longer surgery then expected.
She ended up with a long pin running down almost the entire length of her leg with a lot of other pins and wires.  The doc said the surgery went very well.
They kept the dog Tuesday night and said that they will keep her at the vet until Friday, possibly even through the weekend.  When she gets home the trick will
be keeping the dog off of it so she can heal.  Apparently the doc is going to give my friend some pills to keep Spirit sleepy after she gets home.

I'm just glad the surgery went well.  WHEW..relief.  Now comes the healing.  I've always been amazed by how fast animals heal.

Thanks again for caring!!

Saturday Spirit came home.  Apparently she is to be crated for a bit to keep her from running around on her leg.
I don't know much more other than she's on her way to recovery.  It will be interesting to see how long they can keep that pup
quiet.  That, I think, will be the greatest challenge.

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.

How is Spirit doing?

She seems to be recovering well, so far.
She is being crated most of the time to keep her still.  They keep her medicated for pain as well as to keep her sleepy.
She needs to remain as still as possible for a while.
When she goes out to the yard to potty, she hobbles pretty well on 3 legs.

So far, so good.  It's gonna be hard to keep her down once she's feeling better.  They have another puppy and I know Spirit is going to want to play...
or skateboard.  Yup...Spirit picks up the skateboard, walks up the driveway, gets on with all 4 legs, pushes with her hind leg and then rides it down the driveway.  Crazy Dog!!
It will be SOME time before she is up to doing that again.

Here's a picture of a sleepy Spirit.

I'll have to ask my friend if he has any pictures of Spirit on the skateboard.  If he does, I'll be sure to post them.

I'll keep you posted.

UPDATE:
Spirit just got the wire and rods removed from her leg (more surgery).
And despite the fact that she pulled out her stitches after having those removed, she is doing great.
Apparently her leg has healed wonderfully and will be just fine - (unless she gets into more trouble).
She's back to her spunky self although still walking on 3 legs.  The vet says in no time she'll be using all 4 again.

Thank you so much for your prayers. They were answered in her great recovery, but also in finding  a doctor who charged only 1/3 of what the other
vets all wanted and who apparently knew what she was doing..  Thank you again!!

Here is a picture of Spirit a few days before she got the wire and rods out.  She looks pretty content to me.

UPDATE:

Spirit is back to her usual self.  I got an e-mail from my friend saying that Spirit had gone out to the wood pile and grabbed herself a rattlesnake.
She quickly bit off it's head and took off running across their property while munching on the snake.

Before her accident she often hunted the rattlesnakes down and would chomp off their heads and bring the bodies to the family as gifts.
Very scary.  I wonder where all those heads are...I hear you can still get "poked" and poisoned by them.
Crazy dog.
