My nearly 1 year old chocolate lab chews any part of his collar he can get ahold of. If he can pull it off it will be gone in less than an hour. If he can't get it off his neck he will chew on the excess, how ever short or long it may be.
I bought him a nylon collar this morning. Within 2 hours I found a chunk on the ground and the end of his collar frayed. I cut off some excess and burned the end to keep it from fraying. Left him in his kennel for about 30 minutes while I ran to check the setting on a gas block. Came back to let him out and he can chewed the collar again. Ideas? I put it on super tight or super loose, just enough so it wont fall off or come off with out some hard pulling. |

Well he is very sneaky then because its always on his neck when I find him. It's a lab so I shouldn't be surprised I guess. They are "special". I always had good luck with the bitter spray. Otherwise, you'll just have to wait until he grows out of chewing things. |

I never had a collar on my chocolate lab after about 6 months, unless we were going on a leashed walk...and then it was a choke collar.
As curious as they are, I was sure that I'd find her dead with her head hung up on something by the collar, so she didn't wear one (still doesn't at age 10). She was really persistent with sticking her growing head through the field fence. But I live rural, and she doesn't roam. |
