| MY 10month old GSP (German short haired pointer) ran off on Saturday while he was being watching while I was out of town. He's been gone since 8pm that night. I have made flyers, posted on social media, asked neighbors drove around and walked around as well. I live in a pretty rual part of town, so I don't want to think someone took him but I know it's possible.. Has anyone had gsp run off for days? Just looking for advice at this point |

Had a dog (not GSP) gone for 6 days, on the sixth day someone recognized her from one of my flyers. I have thought some times putting up wanted posters was just an exercise in futility, but she came home because of one so I guess not.
I live in a very rural area, with acres and acres of woods, hills, streams, and I had walked miles on end looking for her, in fact had been to the exact place she was found looking for her. Good luck and look hard. |

Don't forget to check your nearest animal shelters. Go in person and look, don't just take their words for whether your dog is there or not. I know it got to be hard to do all this work (flyers, phone calls, driving) when you must be beside yourself with worry and sadness with your pup lost, but every minute counts. Good luck, OP...I'll keep my fingers crossed for you and pray for your pup's safe return. |

Check Petsmart or the like, if you have them in your area. |

Glad you got him back!
Is he chipped? Does he always wear a collar with tags? If not then time to fix those basic issues. My dogs also wear a Garmin Astro dog tracking collar.
The Astro is spendy, but I live with a lot of acreage in a rural area and the dogs have the run of it when we are outside. For us it's been more than peace of mind while training them for off lead because when you've got two hard as nails Akitas there's not enough e-collar in the world to stop them from chasing a deer! My older rescue Akita has been cured of this. Turkeys, too. My 16 mo. male is almost cured. It's a slow process with Akitas
The one feature I do wish the Garmin had is a way to set up a boundary on the map that would alarm if a dog crossed it. Unfortunately they remain very hunter focused with the Astro. |
