my big red kitty, Clem has been having stomach issues the last three days or so... he has been throwing up three or so times a day.

his appetite has diminished some and he does feel a little warm (but it is hard to tell for sure)...

not really lethargic, but he has slowed up a little.

he is apx 10 years old and due to previous urinary tract problems and the fact that he does not drink water from a bowl (or sink or cup or anything, never has since i adopted him) he is on a diet of wet (canned) food, that i add additional water to.

he still will purr (i always used this as a litmus test for being sick, but i am only assuming)...

i know ya cant make a diagnosis from just that info, and i would have him at a vet right now get'n the once over, but the only vet in this area that comes CLOSE to being affordable has recently passed away (rip Dr. DenBore) and having just started a new gig after a long time looking, i am BROKE ASS until my first paycheck next friday...

do kitties get the stomach flue? should i back off his food big time for a few days? is there something i can get him to settle his stomach?

are there any signs i should be lookin fer?

any help or advice for me and my very important little guy is GREATLY APPRECIATED. i hate to see him like this.

ETA:
last night i did not feed him very much at all and earlier than normal. still, around 4am he woke up and threw up but the bout was over much more quickly and it was little more than stomach fluids...

thanks in advance.

It could literally be anything. We had a cat that vomited a lot because she had irritable bowel syndrome. Another because of heart problems. And another from cancer. When they get old and their health starts going downhill vomiting is a very common symptom of just about anything in cats.

Any signs of bowel obstruction, i.e. any poop coming out?

Just for future reference, cats will purr when they are in pain, as well as when they are happy.

Other than that, I'd recommend calling a vet's office and seeing what they think.

Good luck and I hope your cat gets well soon.

Not a vet, but check his teeth.  Our kitty recently and abruptly started acting really lethargic and distant and weird.  We took her to the vet and she had an abcessed tooth which had to be removed.  Hundred bucks and she's good-to-go.

I'd get Clem to the vet ASAP, but in the meantime try boiling some plain white rice and lean ground beef and feed him that. If he can keep it down there's likely something irritating his stomach that makes it hard for him to keep down anything not as bland.

yeah he needs to see a vet asap. not keeping food down nor drinking water and he'll die of dehydration.

Does the cat eat mice and so forth?  I had a cat that at the age of 14 managed to puncture her stomach with the bone from a mouse, and it caused her the same type of problem.  We had to have her put down.  Hope it all works out.

Sorry your kitty is sick. Sounds like you need a trip to the vet. Probably needs a blood panel as well. Wish I could help you out! Email me any time [email protected]
