Anybody following what's going on with SWFA and the Hugo awards and wants to enlighten a late comer? I've got snippets through Facebook but don't get the backstory.

Are you talking about Hugo Award nominated author who claimed to be subject to politically motivated character assassination? If so there was a multi page thread in GD on it started a few days ago.

SFWA & the Hugo Awards are unrelated but similar kerfluffles.

SFWA ejected a "life member" over his views on race. (I"m not saying he is right or wrong - but he does like arguing on the internet.)

Larry Correia wanted to prove a point about "social justice warriors" and Hugo award nominations, so he held his "Sad Puppies i" and "Sad Pupplies II" campaigns,  last year and this year - and behold, the hate overfloweth. (He's on the short list for a Hugo, as are the entire Wheel of Time books.)

If you go to monsterhunternation.com, you can read his take on the whole thing.

My computer won't link to the "deeply outraged & offended" sites - something about "recursive logic failure", "tolerant group displays intolerance", or "Signal to noise ratio of 'fact vs feelings' exceed operational parameters".  (My computer has some weird error messages, today.)

That's a short a summary as I can say. YMMV

SFWA - lefty run organization that defends big publishers against authors, while attacking smaller publishers.

BTW- this goes back quite a while...it has slowly been building every year. here is a link that describes it pretty well
