That was a very nice post, OP.  I don't know 99.9% of you anyhow, but I'm sorry for the loss of your friend.

I think I talked about something with that guy years ago.

Bummer.

Sympathy for his friends and family.

We're losing to many good men on this site. Prayers going up for your friend and his family. I wish there was something anything that could be said to help the pain, but that's just not possible. Love is like a drug, it makes us feel invincible and on top of the world, but when that drug is taken away we go through withdrawal like nothing else. I'm truly sorry for your loss.

God Bless.

If there is a silver lining to all the death, it's that we can all be together again in heaven. This isn't the last time you will see your buddy.  Hang in there.

My heart is broke, not just for my loss, but the thought of what his kids must be feeling is just devastating. Don't know if I'm even making sense right now, I just really miss my friend and I'm hurting for his family.

He quit posting here a couple of years ago. Had a bought with cancer and beat it. But it came back a couple of months ago and he went fast. I'm glad he is no longer suffering. And knowing he was a believer I'm comforted knowing I'll see him again some day. But this still sucks.

This was his last avatar:

I was kinda searching for his last post here and came across this post. I know it wasn't his last, but it was the post I was supposed to find. It was like he was ministering to me:

Goodbye my friend I already really miss you.

Edited to add:

Sorry, didn't think about pic time line. Pic is 10+ years old. I've added a lot of silver highlights to my hair since. I just always loved the pic, even though I don't have a good copy of it.

Jeff was (I think) 56, his youngest son is in college now. His daughter just graduated college and is getting married in June. One of his last requests of me was to pray he could make it long enough to walk her down the isle. Dang that messes me up.

He really was one of the good ones!

Another pic of my dear friend:

I started reading all our text exchanges since 09. I only made it a handful of years. Some friendships are just not replaceable in this life.

I really really do appreciate the prayers and kind thoughts - especially towards his family.

Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2looking unto Jesus, the [a]author and [b]finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Hebrews 12:1

Jeff has finished his race and is now perfected.

He is now in that "great cloud of witnesses" , watching you and us, running our race.

May we run it in a worthy manner.

Best thoughts for his family and friends.

I lost a very good friend to cancer last year. No warning, just a quick bout with it and she was gone.

Life is like a vapor. Some a short life, some a very long one, in the end it's what we do with Jesus that matters. Glad to hear he was a believer. Some will say I'm crazy when I say my mother's death was a celebration but I know her belief 100%. So sorry for the unbelievers. What the day ends we all approach the throne as equals and we preach our own funerals, from what op said Gunner did a good job of preaching his. Prayers for the family and friends.

Sorry for your loss OP. Going through a similar thing now with my buddy. 30+ years of hunting fishing wilderness traveling shooting etc. The thought that it might all be over soon is painful. The best we can do is be there for them when they need us and honor their memory. You have done well at those things. God bless you and your friend.

God damn, that's sad. 56 is young, especially for a guy who looked like he took care of himself. Truly sorry for your loss.
