I am an acoustic player and use D'addario light PB's and DR Sunbeams in .012-.053 size. Well, I went and got an electric today...my first one, a Epiphone SPII Les Paul. Got it off craigslist for $100...I'll post pics later. So, give me some suggestions on what to say to the kid who looks like he fell into a tackle box? |

It's all a matter of personal preference really. I use Ernie Ball Super Slinkys. I'm 23 now and have been playing for a little more than 10 years(not that it matters how old I am, but I have been playing for almost half of my life ) Anyway, I've tried just about every different string and gauge there is for my electric guitars. There is no single answer in what is the best guitar string. Since you are familiar with D'Addarios, try them out. But don't just stop there. I suggest that you try out as many different strings as you can and find out what works for you. They all cost about the same amount, so you don't really have anything to lose when it comes time to change your strings. It will take a while for you to figure out what you like though. Good luck. |

In terms of acoustic strings I like The Ernie ball earthwoods. Earthwoods For my electric, a modified Fernandes, I have been using Elixir polyweb strings. Elixir |

D'Addario sound overall the nicest, but they die way too fast for me. I find that GHS Boomers sound just as good, but then to last a little longer. If you can already play on a heavier acoustic gauge, I would suggest going with .010-.046 which will give you incredible brightness but at the same time you'd be able to navigate the higher strings without feeling too constricted. |

Well, I pick up a set of D'addario XL nicklewound lights. I noticed after I got home that the low E string on the guitar measured .042 versus the lights I got with .046. Must have had super lights or similar on the guitar. I strug it up and didn't notice any thing wanky with it...haven't checked intonation but it sure sounded fine. Anything eles I should look for? I'm using D'add .012-.053 on my acoustics so these still feel great. Thanks for the input all, like my acoustics, I'll try other brands...but I did get 2 more player points with the D'add... |
