Just bought it today. I have to say as a long time Deth fan, it's not that bad. 3 3/4 out of 5 stars. Also, I never thought I'd hear a Banjo in a Megadeth song, oddly, it works.
Track list:
1. Kingmaker- A reflection of today's "gimme now!" attitude. Mustaine and Ellefson wail. 2. Super Collider- Title track. Decent. 3. Burn!- Pretty damn catchy. 4. Built For War- Eh, despite the kick ass title, it's mediocre at best. 5. Off The Edge- A statement of how crazy the world has gotten. Good song. 6. Dance In The Rain- A song for the present times, a definite slam on recent scandals and O'Bummer. Very good song. 7. Beginning Of Sorrow- A song about the vicious cycle of parent-less children. Eh, decent. 8. The Blackest Crow- Banjo! Yet, it's an awesome song about being wronged by a woman, kinda bluesy. 9. Forget To Remember- This ones kinda bluesy too. Decent song. 10. Don't Turn Your Back...- I like it, short but sweat. 11. Cold Sweat- This is a cover of the Thin Lizzy song. Megadeth shreds it, it's a keeper. |

I read in an interview a year or two ago that Dave actually has Chris do the more complicated stuff anymore, because the guy is that good of a player. And I believe GuitarWorld.com has the interview about Super Collider up on their site, if you want to read it. In it Dave said that the banjo you hear on The Blackest Crow is actually one of those Dean 6 String Banjos and not one of the traditional 4 or 5 string ones. I've been wanting to get one of those for awhile, it haven't gotten around to it.
Gonna have to pick up the new album too. |

Yeah, I noticed after reading the lyrics that Dave and Chris pretty much split the soloing duties. Chris is a damn good guitarist. I'm just glad Mustaine didn't call it quits when his playing hand was jacked up. Gotta check out that article. I've been wanting one of those six string banjos too, since I already play guitar maybe the learning curve wouldn't be as steep. |
| Dave has always split soloing duties with the other guitarists in the band, and being that the other guitar player has usually been a hired gun virtuoso they have always handled the more complicated solo's. Especially now with Chris as he is the best guitarist Megadeth has had, including Marty Friedman. I'm going to have to check this album out, especially now that I know there is a Cold Sweat cover. That is one of my favorite songs and I would like to see Broderick's take on Sykes. |
| I really dig this album. I have being on a Megadeth binge for the last couple of years (this is 9th album from them I have purchased). The style is a bit different from their last two albums, but it definitely hits the spot. Some of the tracks are not "classic" Megadeth, but I still highly recommend it. When listened through a good pair of headphones the bass really comes alive (I listen to it using my HTC One with the beats sound). |
| After listening to it more, I like it even better. Kingmaker and Super Collider are great. I dig the Hell out of Cold Sweat, always liked the Thin Lizzy version anyways, Megadeth really puts their own spin on it. Still can't get over The Blackest Crow, not what I would expect from a Megadeth song, for some reason it just works. |

Quoted: Speaking of Deth, I've been wondering why it was spelled without the second "a." I did a quick Google and didn't come up with anything. Anyone here know why? For one, a name either has to be short (my band, Grel, for example), memorable (Thousand Foot Krutch, Strapping Young Lad), or it needs to be splittable. Megadeath is none of those. It's long, not very memorable (people still spell it Megadeath) and the 'D' is not a letter that allows for it to be splittable or mirrored. Megadeth allows for the space between the 'A' and the 'D' to be the splitting or mirror point of the logo. |

I mean, just like you said, most people misspell it anyway so obviously it's not memorable to them. |

Since the name isn't short and the name is not memorable, you go for the logo. Megadeath makes a poor logo because the d/D is not a symmetrical letter. The space between the AD fits much better, creating a logo that is memorable.
