I used to play guitar in High School but haven't played in 35 years.  I am trying to relearn again.  It was much easier in High School.  A bunch of us kids would get together a couple times a week for a couple of hours and play and teach and learn from each other.

I have 2 guitars. I have a cheapo electric and a Yamaha acoustic.  The strings on the electric is easier on my fingers.  The strings on my Acoustic is tearing up my finger tips.  Is there a good set of strings to use without losing my fingertips?

Not so much type of string, you should just try changing to a lighter string. You might try some .011 - .052 strings. Those will be light for an acoustic. I don't spend much time on my acoustic but usually use Martin SP strings.

I use Elixir lights on my acoustic if I'm trying to do anything resembling lead work but for just chords, I prefer mediums.

As helix said, just drop down a gauge and they will be easier on your hands/fingers.

I went to Guitar Center and told him what I wanted.  He suggested Cleartones Coated mediums.  I told him that I had a couple suggestions of the Elixir strings.  He said the Cleartones would be better and if I did not like them he would exchange them for the Elixir's.

After changing the strings the guitar has a completely different sound.  It has more of a "ring" to it.  My finger tips are so sore I dont know if they are going to make a difference yet.

Martin Silk and Steel strings are very easy to play.

I buy a different set I have never tried before everytime I order stuff. The lights will make it have a more of a "ring" but that will mellow as the strings wear.
Have fun, and I caution you...it's worse than BRD.
