I was SUPPOSED to be done with my kitplane by now and make the trip but not yet. Definately next year. The kit manufacturer is based at OSH so it's basically a mandatory homecoming trip...!

I'm hoping to go, I'll drive though

I went last year for the first time in a while and was reminded why I only go like every 5 years.

So.....maybe.

Can you elaborate?  I've never been.  I assume "crowded" doesn't begin to describe it...

How awesome would that be if there was a Larue booth at Oshkosh :)

Crowded, you have never seen this many planes and people in one place. It's absolutely worth it though in my opinion, but it's too much of a good thing for others.

I loved every minute of the 5 days I was there last year. I usually get to see an airshow every year or so, and I got 5 straight days of not only airshow but just busy GA activity. I was in heaven.

Crowded, hot, on your feet all day, crowded, expensive, crowded, hot, sunburt.

My main bitch it that Im just not interested in 90% of the stuff there. Last year I just wanted to see the Raptor and Osprey other than the antiques.

But if you get a chance to fly there and camp, do it!

I had a feeling that's what you'd say...  What do you think about Sun N Fun?  I'd like to go down there for a couple of days (not camping).  I work for the airlines, and getting in and out of MCO/TPA is easier than the OSH area....

As I live half an hour away I'll probably drive down, ( but then again, I am not a pilot nor have ever even been up in a small plane for that matter so I may not count in your little corner of Arfcom  )

Your intersted in planes, which means your cool in my book. If I was able to leave camping to go for a joy ride, i would totally offer a free discovery flight.

Never been to Sun n Fun.

Im not trying to tell you not to go, by all means Oshkosh is a wonderful event that offers sights that you will never see anywhere else, ever. Its just not something I want to fight every year.

Part of it is all the non-aviation people everywhere, especially out walking around the private planes. I dont know how many times I wanted to scream "If you dont own it, dont fucking touch it!"

I only went once and that was 1996.  Awesome trip, and an experience I'll never forget.

That was the year Bob Hoover had just gotten his medical back and he preformed there that year.  Got to meet the great man himself.

I remember there was a beer tent/hall that was just outside the boundry of the airport and did a bang up business (lots from me).  Lots of "flying" going on inside.  Because it was just outside the fence, he was allowed to sell beer while the airport area was "dry".  Any idea if the place is still doing business?

While it was an awesome trip, it paled in comparision to the Air Races at Reno. (More beer)

The beer tent just outside Camp Shoeler, that is a permenant landmark. Totally awesome time there.

If there are more ARFCOM members going there, we should get a beer somewhere.

I have been to sun n Fun for the last 6 years, but have never been to Oshkosh.  I volunteer on the Warbird line and it is alot of work but alot of fun.  Many of the Warbird line guys do Oshkosh, as well, and they tell me I must go to Oshkosh at least once, but I like Sun n Fun a great deal.  I used to fly in, but now that I stay for 8 days, I drive and camp.  Oshkosh is only about an hour longer drive from MS than Lakeland, but my work schedule is always screwy in the summer.  I highly recommend Sun n Fun.
