Quick question I am an A&P I also filed and received a separate lower certificate to expand my privileges to sign off on 8130s for a repair station. My boss wants to keep MY repairman's certificate in a binder with the repair station license... is this normal? Also say I left the job of my own free will or otherwise what rights do I have to retrieve my certificate..... thanks!

I have no idea about the MX side when it comes to certification but I have never heard of an operation keeping a pilots cert! You dont hand that thing over to anyone! |

I had an employer pay for a passport renewal and then my boss demanded it be kept in his office. I laughed and told him good luck with that demand. Corporate legal told him the same thing.
Same thing applies here. He can have a COPY, but not YOUR original; it's YOUR certificate, NOT the company's. |

repairman cert does not travel with the person, it belongs to the repair station. It is acquired through the repair station. Now if you had a DAR or a DER, those go with you
FAR 65.103(a): ยง65.103 Repairman certificate: Privileges and limitations. (a) A certificated repairman may perform or supervise the maintenance, preventive maintenance, or alteration of aircraft or aircraft components appropriate to the job for which the repairman was employed and certificated, but only in connection with duties for the certificate holder by whom the repairman was employed and recommended. |

avmech has it right.
The Repairman's Certificate is only valid at your place of employment. If you leave, you surrender it to the Repair Station. The repair station should have a copy in your training records as well as a copy of your A&P certificate. The FAR's require the certificate to be presentable if the need arises for an inspector to see it, so what quite a few repair stations do is frame the Repairman Certificates and display them in the lobby, office hallway, ect. ETA: FAR Part 65 should have all your answers. You know what they say when you ask a question......"What do the regs say?" This is a good site I referred to quite frequently, you might want to book mark it.....http://www.faa-aircraft-certification.com/ |
