Over this last weekend as I passed the Louisville airport I noticed a strange camoflage on an aircraft that appeared to be an FA-18. Was a light blue, then a little darker blue and white, it also had a Red Star on the Tail. After work that day I decided to take a closer look at this aircraft, when I got closer it was in fact a FA-18 painted in Soviet Camo, with the Red star on the tail, also on the aircraft below the canopy you could lightly see the US emblem in white.

Would anyone know what base they are out of and purpose of a plane such as this, maybe Top Gun Stuff?

Thanks in advance

Isn't that one of those planes they use for training missions? I remember seeing a documentary about red flag or whatever it was called in the imax theater at WPAFB

Just an advirsary aircraft.  There are a few floating around painted in different colors and flags.  F5's and F16's too flown by the Navy.

Probably from NAS Fallon, Top Gun, Strike or VFC-13 - The Saints.
Google up NAS Fallon or VFC-13 images.

I used to work on those for the Navy Adversary program in VF-45 at NAS Key West, back in 94-96. The squadron had F-16N's and F-5E's maintained by civilians, and A-4E's and TA-4J's maintained by Navy, then replaced the Vipers with old worn out Lot 7 Hornets that had been used up by the Marines after they were already used up by the Navy. I was in the squadron both as navy and civilian for over 4 years. The program at Key West shut down in 96, but I hear it has since started up again. Reserve squadrons are doing it all now I guess. Hopefully they have gotten some newer Hornets since then.

It isn't unusual to see Migs at the Louisville airport though.  I have seen no shit Mig-29s there on a number of occasions and I am pretty sure one of those new Sukhoi SU-35s once.  I have also seen some of the big Antonovs there before.  Kiesler's Defense (just over the border in Indiana) imports a lot of the Russian Ordnance supposedly for testing by the Army including Migs, Hinds, Tracked vehicles etc. http://www.kiesler.com/defense/products.aspx?cat=463  I don't know if the Russian stuff is there because of them or what but it is.
