I am somewhat new to smoking cigars and like to have a few extras on hand for whatever reason. I don't smoke too often and figured a 25-50 cigar humidor would more than suffice. The problem I run into is the price. I have noticed a few humidors that are resonably priced at around $30-$50 for a plain jane look. I asked around at my local smoke shops and the one guy I talked to said to stay away from anything less than $100 (bad quality). He said if I wanted something that cheap, I needed to stick with the travel humidors. I have looked at those and they only hold about 12 or so. I have always heard to be prepared for the future and plan ahead. In that case, I know I want my humidor to hold more than 20 I guess the question I have for you all is, does anyone have some of those inexpessive humidors? If so, how do you like it? Or is the guy at the smoke shop right and I should just stick with the travel humidors? They don't hold as much but they are a little cheaper. Thanks in advance and I look forward to your suggestions. |

I too am new to cigars. I just purchased this humidor recently: Glass Display It might be a little out of your budget. I haven't had any problems with it. |

I don't understand why that guy would tell you to stick with travel humidors as you're first choice? Almost all the humidors you'll see around the sub $150 price range at all the various websites are all imported. They are all pretty much the same, but have different names. They are functional decent humidors. As long as they seal good, you'll have relatively few problems. Anything that says "Sure Seal Technology" is imported. Use a good hygrometer and the beads for humidification. A good place to get one is cigarbid if you have patience. You can get a 100 ct for around $50 bucks usually, sometimes cheaper. If you gotta have it now, there are a number of places to get them but I'd probably start with Cigars Intl , Humidor Central, or maybe Ebay. If you want a real nice humidor to last a lifetime check out Daniel Marshall . They have a limited number of seconds they call "Private Stock" that are excellent for a somewhat reasonable amount of money. CALL them for the most current list of what they have available. They are fairly expensive, but IMHO worth it. I know a few guys who have bought their seconds and you can not tell the difference. They come with the same guarantee. I'm saving my pennies for their Treasure Chest Bonita Smoke Shop carries their some of the "first quality" Daniel Marshall items in stock ready to ship. hope this helps |

Thanks for the replies. I appreciate your input. I figured that as long as it seals that it would be good. I thought that since people made knock-offs for everything, that there should be cheap humidors as well. I think I will have to stick with the cigar-bid website since it's not an emergency for me to have one. I am also thinking about getting one for a friend and was a little frustrated when the guy at the smoke shop told me the cheap humidors were crap. I will definitly look for the Sure Seal description when buying the humidor. Heck, if I'm patient enough, I might be able to get a 100 cigar humidor for the same price as the smaller humidors on other websites! |
In general $40 100 count are give away humidors, and that says it all. A good quality 150 or 200 count, trust me, if you think you want 100 you really need a larger one, should cost around $100 to $150, and you can display the humidor too. I strongly believe, if you are not going to display your humidor, use cigar boxs to store your sticks, and place the boxes in a coolidor (ice chest), and humidify the ice chest using crystals or beads + a battery powered electric fan (Ousts fan). You can get all those for less than $50. Remember to bleach clean the interior if the coolidor before you use it to store cigars to (1) get rid of plastic smell, and (2) killany potential spores that can cause mold growth. |

HIJACK For those of us who go to hot, arid locations for employment [GWOT] and glass top display humidors are not an option, what would the hive recommend? I have seen the travel humidors but without the cedar lining I am unconvinced; should i just try to make a coolerador? This may be an issue shortly for me, but right now am still stateside. |
