| So I am in Searcy Arkansas for work for two weeks. Well I get here to find out it's a damn dry county!!! On top of that it doesn't seem that there is anywhere decent I can go and relax with a cigar. Gonna be a long two weeks. |

there's a decent cigar bar, maduro's, in Little Rock. a little ways down the highway.
i thought i read somewhere that taxes here are 68 %, but either way they're exorbitantly high. Cigars were actually cheaper in California when i went there 2 weeks ago. i've been to 3 shops in arkansas. Little Rock pipe has a real good selection but prices are ridiculous because of the taxes. the one in my town has been here forever, and the guy has never heard of "boutique" brands (Alec Bradley to name one). there's supposed to be a decent one in Ft. Smith, but i've been there 3 times in the middle of a weekday and it has never been open. i ordered a traveldor and take it with me empty wherever i go. folks think i'm crazy when i'm looking up cigar stores wherever i end up, but it just doesnt work to try to find good stuff at a decent price around here. so probably late for you, but you're better off bringing your own stuff into the state. |
| Yeah I was in Little Rock the other night and saw Maduro's on the way out. I'll pass on sticks with a 66% tax anyhow. I brought my own, but there is nowhere to smoke at the hotel and this town is dry and crappy so I can't go to a bar or anything. Pretty much 2 weeks of no cigars :( Everything we have done here has been at least an hour drive. We did drive into Memphis on St Paddy's Day and go to Graceland and bar hopped a bit. That was cool. Little Rock was also cool. |

I made it to Maduro's this weekend and it is a helluva place to smoke. of course i was only buying one cigar, so it wasnt that bad. bourbon selection was great too.
employee there mentioned that there was actually a bill in the arkansas legislature to decrease the tax on cigars. i looked it up and found this: http://www.arkansasbusiness.com/article/40626/house-committee-approves-tobacco-tax-bill looks like its about to get worse. and on top of that we have our republican senator and i think two republican congressmen pushing for sales taxes on internet sales. |
If you fly with cigars, make sure that you buy a DOT approved lighter container for your lighter. I had a nice one ganked by TSA on a flight to IN a while back. The lighter container is a silly little .50 cent plastic screwtop can, but the DOT sticker is obviously worth $10.
