How do I keep the humidor at 70 without freezing the wife out of the house.  The normal temperature is around 74 in our house which is very comfortable, however my current humidor shows 76 deg with 70% which worries me. It is an inexpensive box and I am presently seasoning my new humidor which just arrived but it will be several days before that one is ready.

I have been seasoning the new humidor for about five days.  The first two with the humidification device and a samll shot glass of distilled water.  after that just the humidification device.  I opened it today to find mold growing on the pull out tray.  the humidity reads 75%.  What should I do?

Your new humidor will get just as warm. If you want to regulate temps you will need a cooler or wine fridge.

Do you have a basement?  I store mine there in the summer. Bring them up in the winter.

Thats what I thought well I guess I will hold off on using the new humidor and look for a wine fridge and go that route. It is a shame the humidor I just received from cheap humidors is actually a beautiful piece.

I don't have any knowledge of it being used for a humidor. But I have worked for a Lincoln dealer as a tech for 12 years. Navigators and and the MK series cars have TED units " thermo electric device" in the seats for the seat air conditioner. They can drop the temp around 18 degrees from ambient temp. Peltier is what it is also called.
When you asked that question it popped into my head that you could make your own. I dont smoke cigars and know nothing about them.
Maybe we should work on a prototype and take it to the SHARK TANK! I love that show.
ETA: I also think it is what they use to make those refrigerated Ice chest.

exact reason I sold my nice wood humidor and keeps me from buying another.
the heat here makes a wineador a must. mine is set on a timer
basically runs opposite of the programmable thermostat on the house a/c

Or you could do what I do - not freaking worry about it. I've been smoking, collecting, and aging cigars for over 20 years, never had a problem with the temp being over 70, it's usually somewhere between 72-76 in my house depending on time of year and never had any problems with my cigars. I have some cigars that are 15+ years old, they smoke wonderfully, all I did was keep them properly humidified and keep them out of the sun.
