so before i fall off the cliff and get into setting up a coolerador. i am looking to get a decent size humidor to replace my 50 count i have now.  i was thinking of around the size of 125-175ct humidor.  any suggestions on certain brand to stay away from and who to look at.  i have been looking at cheap humidors and cuban crafters, especially their imperfect area.  any other places i should be looking.  i am not looking to break the bank either.

one of the ones i had been looking at is:
http://www.thompsoncigar.com/catalog/alt_image_popup.jsp?entityId=74574&entityType=product

thanks in advance

Before someone else comes along and breaks the bad news....

Dont waste your time or money on another humidor.  You have already admitted that you are on the edge of the cliff.  I'm sure Echo will be along shortly to sneeze behind, which in turn will cause you to leap off the edge....

Bottom line: Take the money you were gonna drop on a new humi.....and construct a coolidor

but if i decide to stay with a humidor, what will anyone suggest?

Two humidors and a tupperdor later I had to concede and go coolidor. Just do it. I have no suggestions on humis. I tried to be swap meet louie and wound up in a coolidor anyway.

HAVANA FOOTLOCKER!!!!!

My glass-top is nice for the office but this was the best thing ever...and I scored it on cheaphumidors.com under the scratch and dent and 10% off with free shipping.
I still can't find the scratch or dent.
Give them a look.

Just so we are clear...I have the 100 ct (Milano) correction....its The Pompeii in the office, the footlocker, two 60qt coolers and a 30 bottle size fridge going now.

I just picked up a 150 qt Marine cooler (60.00 at Sam's Club) that is being de-plastic smelled right now. I will be using the closet wire rack method for shelves and coating the sides with cedar from my empty boxes and trays on the shelves....work in progress.

So when I push you...it is all from love!

Tell you the truth I am not a fan of glass top humidors.  Maybe I need to be patient for a wine fridge.

But its so hard to be patient.

I'd suggest getting a small traditional humidor for your 'here guests, have one of these fine smokables'.

Concurrently, build a humidor to store/age in.

so if i have read correctly humidors only mainly keep the rh in check and not the temp.  am i right in this thought?  my house stays around 78 in the day and 73 at night as it costs alot to keep the ac running around 70 down here in FL during the summer.  now if i decide to jump off the cliff and go with a coolerador or wineador which would be better?  as i live in FL i dont have a basement to keep a coolerador or wineador in.  i was thinking a wineador would be better just because of this aspect.

so whats your thoughts and opinions? would a regular larger humidor be ok like i was originally thinking or would i need to go to a coolerador/ wineador?

If you're considering turning off the AC to save money, I'd recommend a coolerdore, preferably something like the Coleman Marine which has great insulation.

we wouldnt turn off the ac. we just wont set it lower than 73 at night and bump it up to 78 during the day time.

well it looks like i am going to pick up a traditional humidor first.  i have a buddy looking to get into cigars and the humidor i have now is a 50count that a buddy gave me to get started with, so might as well pay it forward.

so back to traditional humidor suggestions. size is still up in air but it will be sitting on a desk.
maybe a coolerador or wineador in the future, but not yet.

Few points:

1. No worries on the temperature if the house won't get above 78.  Just keep the humidor in a dark, cool place and you'll be fine.
2. Stay on the small size for your traditional humidor.  I wouldn't get one bigger than 100ct.  You'll find that after you fill that one up, you'll want more storage room on the cheap with less maintenance and that's where the coolerdor comes in.
3. Make sure your humidor, whichever route you go, has good hydration.  I'd recommend getting Heartfelt beads or similar and a digital hydrometer so you can keep an eye on everything.

If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to hit us up.

so a couple of the ones i am looking a now are:
http://www.cheaphumidors.com/p_imperfect-humidors_HUM-100HS-IMP.html
i like the drawer underneath to hold the cutter and lighter

http://www.cigarsinternational.com/prodDisp.asp?item=M-HUM75REG&cat=10

http://www.cheaphumidors.com/p_medium-humidors_HUM-3DR.html
i like the availability to be able to organize my smokes better.  but worried about keeping rh because of all the drawers that could possibly open.

thinking about it more now, i guess the glass top doesnt bother me that much, it would make it easier for me to check my rh/temp.

I'm saying this to help you and other people new to cigar smoking and I'm basing this on my personal experience over the last 15 years of cigar smoking:

If you buy a cheap humidor, you're going to get a cheap humidor.  Either spend them money and buy a nice humidor that seals well and is made of quality wood or buy a cooler.  I know the cooler isn't anywhere near as pretty, but it's far superior to average humidors when it comes to regulating humidity and temp.

which manufactures would you suggest?

It is a personal thing.....I dislike the drawer models...IMO...openings just leave areas where humidity can get in or your internal balance can get messed up.
But they sell thousands of them...they must know something I do not.

Some dislike the glass-top....I have one and it has been a very good office humidor for me.
I will say that I baby it a little more and it does take more PG solution refils than my Havana Footlocker.

I really like Cheaphumidors.com....I cannot say enough about them as they have taken real good care of me!

Yep. that's why you should just go with a cooler.  I have a thread here on how to set one up that's pretty painless.

+1 I didnt listen at first. Went from jar to tupperware to 1 humi to 2 humis to a cooler rathet quickly. I learn slow. Go lood at my threads here in the humidor in chronological order. Get a cooler a BIG cooler (again I learn slow) and be done with it.

I have been thinking about coolers and wine fridges.   We walked by a wine fridge in home depot yesterday that was on sale.  So I stopped and looked at it for a few minutes and my fiancée just rolled her eyes at me and laughed a little because she knew what I was thinking.  My argument was that I need to be able to store some cigars for our wedding next year.  Her argument was that I just got back to work from being laid off for a while and I need to save some money.

So I will work on filling my new humidor for now. And when some more money becomes available I will most likely do a cooler set up.

Take a look at this place. You can have them customize the cabinets to your liking. My wife got me one years ago and I've been trying to gradually fill it. A nice humidor makes a nice display piece in the house (all my buddies are jealous) plus will serve you well for the rest of your life.

those are very nice, but with my current funds i dont think i can drop that coin anytime soon on a cabinet.
