I lost my keys to one of those "stainless steel" trailer locks and need to cut it off to move the trailer. Can I cut it with a skill saw and an abrasive blade?

What does the lock look like?
ETA: Is it the pin type lock?

It is about 1/4 inch in diameter with a "knot" on each end. The shaft goes throught the little hole on the lift part of a typical trailer tounge. I can get to it easily but don`t want to buy giant bolt cuters if I can grind through it .

I'm having trouble picturing the type of lock you are talking about, but if you can get to the shaft with a saw blade you should be able to cut it.  I would be surprised if an abrasive blade/Skillsaw combo will do the job though.  You would probably be better off buying a cheap hacksaw and a spare blade.

Too bad you don't live close, I have an angle grinder and cutoff wheel that would love to help.

Thanks! Essentially a saw and abrasive blade IS a cutoff saw. I`ll just grind away and see if it works. We cut metal all the time this way but this is Stainless and suspect it may just GLOW.

Your saw should work.
Work slow because yes, it will glow red. It gets harder the hotter it gets.
And DONT get yer fingers.

I have cut off locks with a fricking Dremel.  Give it a try.

Good luck, and let us know if it works.  Be sure to tell us how many blades it takes too.

Is this it?  I would think if you had time and patience, you could grind it off.

if its the lock lacey posted above, I just drilled out the brass tumblers, where the key went and it came right off

most locks like that have a 4 digit code engraved on it where the key inserts, the manufacture or a locksmith maybe able to provide a key... not sure of the cost though.
