We are back working on the house. The 1/2 bath we want to retile first is 4' 3" X 4' 3". How many square feet of tile do I need to handle it? 18' 6"?

About 19 square feet not accounting for waste or screwed up cuts.

3/12 = 0.25

4.25 x 4.25 = 18.0625 sq. ft. exactly.

With that said, always purchase a little extra for incidentals.

I always figured length X width + 10% for 12x12 tile. Bigger the tile, more the waste % goes up, usually.  It never hurts to get extra, because you will never get the same die-lot, if you need to fix a busted tile a year down the road,

If it's a readily available tile pattern (in stock) just pick up 20 sq ft and go for it, if you run short or break a couple of tiles it's no biggie. You can drop by the store and pick up the extra you need. If it's special order stuff, I'd probably pick up 25 sq ft just so I had comfortable margin. I'm bad to break things.

Thanks guys. I am going to go with the 20 sq feet idea.
