Hey Arfcom! I'd like to build a poker table and I need some good ideas on how to go about it. Things I need... -portable -sturdy, enough for poker set, drinks, and elbows -seat about 4-6 players I have plenty of tools and some experience, but don't know which type of wood to use. Got any ideas? School ends the wednesday after next and I plan (hopefully) to have it for that nights party or atleast for this summer. |

Oak is always a good choice. Will you cover the top with felt or leave it bare? If you want portability you can set the legs using piano hinges to allow you to break it down for transport. Are you planning a round table or some other shape (hex, rectangle, kidney)? |

Well I have been without internet for a week, but today it got it working and I went around town to price materials. The only materials I could not find were: -Black vinyl to cover the padding -1 or 2 inch thick foam for the padding -red/green/blue poker cloth -thin, mousepad like foam for under felt on playing area Here is what I did find but did not purchase yet from Home Depot: -(1) 4x8 foot almost inch thick sheet of cedar hardwood $16.47 (for main structure of table) -(1) 4x8 foot 1/8 inch thicktempered hardwood $6.57 (for playing area) -folding legs $16.99 ~$40 bucks Then the sandpaper, staples, wood glue, spray adhesive, wood finish, brush.. ~$28 So total I am looking at about 80 bucks but will plan of building two since I have enough materials with an extra set of legs. I have all the tools I need, but you all have any tips on finding playing cloth, vinyl, or foam? I checked wallyworld and Michael's. A billiard supply store was closed and they open on tuesday so I will check back with them. My new plan for completion is next friday. I'll post pics once the building starts. |

Still no luck on the foam or cloth so I havent started yet, looks like i might have to order online, and maybe toss out some more cash. UPDATE... more speedbumps. I decided to go shopping online, and foudn teh 2 types of foam I need, the black Vinyl for the rails, and the cloth I need from www.casinosupply.com and www.pokernstuff.com. Total now with the wood, legs, wood glue, etc, and that stuff from the sites, my total is looking at ~80 bucks. I just spend $245 on a CTR kit and Larue QD rear iron sight to finish my first AR, all I have left over is $37.81 |
