Just removed a stove hood and am trying to install a new microwave/hood combo. Problem is the old hood was hard wired in. Can I just pull the wires and install a socket? Is this hard to do and are their any things to worry about outside of making sure that the power is turned off?? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! |

I had to do the same thing. I killed the breaker and pulled the hood. Then I went into the cabinet above, drilled a hole in the back of the cabinet and fished the wire up into the cabinet. I used a surface nount box and mounted it in the back of the cabinet. When you mount the new microwave/hood combo, you'll have to use a template to drill the mounting holes and a large hole to run the plug/wire. I suggest you calculate the length of the cord and mount the box as high in the cabinet as possible (feed line permitting). This will keep the plug up off the bottom shelf where things tend to collect. You should also coil the plug wire and wire-tie it out of the way. |
