Hi All,
Old clothes dryer started grinding and so I took it apart. The front bearing pads are gone and the front bearing was so worn it cracked at the top. I found a kit online that includes the bearing, pads, belt, and felt..yay.
My question is that the exterior of the drum has worn enamel where it contacted the bearing... Will this be an issue.

What crappy design.little wheels would be great. Pads?

Thanks

I am not sure, but I think when I looked at mine the worn enamel made no difference. Hope someone else chimes in!

Pictures would help, my guess is no.

My wife and I fixed ours for the third time, we bought the dryer new in 2000..

We've replaced the glides and felt twice now and the drum bearing/bracket three times.

Runs just as good as new.

The glides and felt are relatively easy to replace, just make sure you prep the surface per instructions before gluing down the new glides and felt.

Homewarranty company said they are replacing it Tuesday.  The dryer is apparently 20+ years old and GE no longer makes the lower bearing part...

Oh well, a new dryer.  But the guy said you won't get 20 years out of new ones..

No, you most likely won't get that kind of life out of your new dryer... I got a new dryer about 8 years ago and just last week had to replace the motor because it wouldn't start without helping to hand start the drum turning.

Hope you get a good dryer OP.

Yes the part is still available, someone is just lazy. How much does the home warranty pay for? [up to what monetary limit]
