I'd like to buy a paint sprayer for my 75 year-old father. He doesn't paint for a living. He'll use it for mainly handyman type of jobs. Painting a room or two in his house or maybe an outdoor shed or fence. He has a portable compressor, but I'm not sure if a pneumatic or electric would be better. I've read some reviews of the Wagner Max line, but not sure it's those are the best. My price range needs to be around $150 or less. Can anyone offer any recommendations for a decent handyman type or brand of paint sprayer?

I was in the same situation. Everybody says that the Wagners are crap. The electric ones the professionals use are amazing but they are pricey. You can rent them dirt cheap though, if you only need it for a day or two.
I ended up buying a $15 aluminum sprayer from the air compressor section at Walmart. Then, I found a Husky oil lubed 4.0 SCFM air compressor at Home Depot for $99. I painted a 10,000 square foot warehouse with it and it worked fine. The compressor is great and will probably last many years. The sprayer is so cheap that I can just buy a new one if it breaks. |

Are we talkin airless, hvlp, cup gun, airbrush, ??? What type of paint and what type of painting? You aren't gonna paint a car with the same sprayer you paint a house. yup for painting large areas i really liked the graco x7 i used. for when i paint random metal pieces i use a cheapo gravity fed gun. now if i paint my car i will be borrowing my dad's nice Sata's. you will need a good air compressor for hlvp or cup gun I have a 5hp 60 gallon. |

He would be using it to paint interior sheetrock walls or exterior plywood siding on a shed. He can easily use his compressor for an air paint gun or an electric if they are better. I was thinking about the guns with the containers attached. I started thinking the paint gun after we painted the interior of his garage this past weekend. We were painting cinder block walls with a brush and it was such a pain getting the paint down into the block's rough surface. I was thinking about how much easier it would be to spray it on. Brands? Air v.s. Electric? Attached tank v.s. Other method? I know very little about any kind of paint gun. That's why I'm asking here. |
