Well looks like my upcoming project to upgrade out cabinets just got bumped up the priority list.

Any recommendations on the RTA kits out there?  My wife and I are completely capable of installation but we want to make sure we don't buy junk ass cabinets or pay $10,000.00 for an installation.  Based on Google searches quality of these different manufacturers seems to be all over the place.

I'm willing to pay for American made quality cabinets.  Trying to avoid the box store, chicom junk.

I'm going through the same thing and have asked the same questions on this forum and the general forum without a whole lot of success.

Started out looking at Ikea, but moved on to RTA

http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_1_139/1477004_Ikea_kitchen_cabinets___anybody_have_any_experience_.html

I'm pretty close to ordering from http://www.rtacabinetstore.com/

Reviews online seem to be mixed with customer service, but I haven't seen any complaints about their products.

If you learn any other information,. please post it.  I'm subscribed.

Yeah, looks like you've hit the same wall as I have with a lack of information and a bit of hesitance to buy sight unseen.  Although I did order a sample door from rtacabinetstore.com who I am also considering.  I would have at least considered Ikea if their designs weren't so goddamn awful hideous.

Here are 3 other manufacturers I have stumbled across that look like they might be decent.  I'm not quite ready to submit any info for a quote yet, we are considering moving some things around so right now I can't give a accurate estimate of linear feet I am going to need.

I went with kraftmaid cabinets from lowes and installed myself.  No complaints.  They were still north of $7k though.

No....Bordeaux Shaker.  I liked the looks of the Cherryville the most, but the wife didn't.  Also, I noticed the Cherryville doesnt have the soft-close drawers which the wife really wants.  We also both like the Brandywine series, but they don't carry all the sizes we need in that line.  The Bordeaux Shaker is also 10% off this month, so that is nice.  What sample door did you order?

I bought my cabinets from cabinets to go. I've pretty happy with them so far. They have all plywood carcass, stuff is pre-drilled and goes together quickly.
You will see the fasteners. The only thing I don't like is a lip that is on the inside caused by the face frame. This is because the cabinets can be flipped — there is no up or down. Becomes a minor issue with plates.

I bought KraftMaid 10 years ago and love them.  I just received a new cabinet in the same style to add to my kitchen and the quality is nowhere near the same.  Everything that I love about my current cabinets has been replaced by a cheaper version.    If budget is a concern, remember that door cabinets cost less than drawers, just get the add ons  you really want.

There is another option that wasn't mentioned... IKEA boxes with custom or semi-custom doors.  Just google it and you can see examples.

I ordered the cherryville sample but now that you pointed out the 10% discount on the bordeaux shaker I'm intrigued.  It does look nice in the pics.

Find the nearest woodworker store (Woodcraft, Rockler, etc).  Go to the store and look at their bulletin board.  You'll find a number of local woodworkers who can make exactly what you need.  Get some bids and compare them to the big manufacturers.  You might be surprised.  Just make sure they are all using the same material when comparing bids. MDF and particle board is crap.

Don't forget a touch of gun-nerd flair.
I've been upgrading the kitchen recently; still not finished.   Expecting to start on a back-splash this weekend but decided to go ahead and do something a little different for a couple of the upper pulls (either side of the window).
Martha Stewart can kiss my butt....

My parents had Ikea cabinets years ago, and they were cheap, dorm room quality cabinets.  I wouldn't recommend them.

Those RTA cabinets look like a good deal.  I'd like to hear what you guys think of the samples when you get them.

We just spent 9k on kraftmaid from lowes, which was a really good price(it's a big kitchen),  but  might have a couple of flips coming up this winter/spring that I could try the rta cabinets in if you guys like them.

My sample Bordeaux Shaker door arrived today and after some nervous sweating on my part......the spousal unit approves!!!

It does look really good.  I'd post pics, but there are a lot of pics on their website.  The problem is, in some pics they look extremely red, and in other pics they look really dark...nearly black.  In real life, it is neither extremely red, or extremely dark.  Nice rich, reddish brownish finish.  Looks good.  If someone wants me to post a pic in a certain lighting condition or something, I can try.

I think we'll place our order in the next day or two.

Did you get your Cherryville door?

I went with RTAcabinetstore.com and was very happy.

I got a quote from Scherr's, but they were not in my ballpark (we're half living half flipping this house).

I went with the Brandywine maple...

Thank you.  I made them out of the BFL keychains sold here and a standard cabinet pull.

Pretty easy to do and would be really sweet in a nice, dedicated gun room.  I just don't have a nice, dedicated gun room.

Lattimer, your kitchen looks great!

Yeah I did, I like it but the 10% on the  Bordeaux  Shaker has me tempted, with my parts list price comes out to around 2500.00 for my kitchen.  If I pay you shipping would you send me your sample so I can compare it against my floor?

Thank you.

The quality is not bad for the price.

Take the extra time to glue the carcasses together during assembly.

The screws holding the hinges of the corner base cabinet to the carcass only had 1/4" of grab and pulled out right away. A few minutes with longer screws solved that.

If you can hold off a few days, sign up for an account with them and see if they have any discounts going. After I placed my order, I got emails from them weekly with 10% +/- off coupons. They also do other promotions, I believe I got 25% off the Brandywine Maple during a one day sale at Christmas (12 days of Christmas Sale....a different cabinet on sale each day).
