When it comes to faucets, is the old saying, "You get what you pay for" hold true?

I would like to upgrade a few faucets and really like the modern designs. However, they are pricey compared to other designs.

There are some faucets on Amazon and eBay that have the look I want for much cheaper than say Lowes or Home Depot.

Would I be making a mistake and asking for leaks and other problems by going the cheaper route?

I had a peerless kitchen faucet (Brush stainless) it was like $140.  It pitted after about 4 years . Called them up and they sent me a new one.
4 years later pitted again. Called and they sent me a new one again.
Not sure if that means they make a good product or not.
But they do replace them no questions asked.

I've bought two in the eight years living at my place. The one that was here lasted about 5 years. I bought one of the cheaper ones from Lowe's and it shit out in less than 2 years. When I replaced that one I got one that was  in the mid range... fingers crossed. My experience, cheap in terms on faucets = crap. I think it's one of the things that shouldn't be skimped on if possible. IMO.
