| Have a house on a small ranch outside of town, I need to run all new plumbing under it. Looking for something to put under the house that snakes hate. We have quite a few rattlers and copperheads in the area and I don't want to roll over on one or have one in my face. Anything you know what works? |
| Would you put a bunch of mothballs in piles under the house? I also have so electrical work to do under the house. On a side note I gave up on contractors in Texas, most can not show up on time or even show up. They also quote one price the double the price half way though the job because they can not figure out an estimate. |

I just tried a google search out of curiosity. Now I know why I can't stand the smell of mothballs, they contain naphthalene. You should check it out yourself.
I guess if I was worried about a poisonous snake in the crawl space I would put the mothballs in a open tray in the crawl for a couple of days then remove them the day before I did the work. It's a tough call, do you have kids in the house? |

"At the suggestion of a Twitter follower, @EnBloc, I set out to perform a scientific test of CCI 9mm shotshells, for protection against snakes and other small varmints in the woods. I planned to measure shot patterns at normal snake distances, and, as a final test, to shoot a tube sock filled with sand to show its real power. That is, until a three foot long Canebrake Rattlesnake surprised us the other day at the range."
"So, I decided to use another scientifically rigorous method. I shot that snake in the face." 9mm shotshell |

Also snakes are out big time this year, killed a rattler at the range Saturday was right near one of the safe tables. |
| Spray with Malathion. Snakes HATE the smell and it will also kill a lot of the insects that the snakes are feeding on. Believe it or not, a friend of mine got rid of a snake inside of a house by spraying the place with under arm deoderant! The snake was actually hiding inside of a couch but that stuff drove it out! |

I would do all of the above. I hate going under our place in AZ. Do mothballs, the other suggested spray, and shotshells just in case (although I would use .22 shotshells and just have safety glasses on...I'd hate to take out a pipe or something)
I'd also thought of getting a blacksnake for an outside pet. Let it eat them. |

Coyotes Really? A bunch of the old folks around here use mothballs. Mothballs are a myth IMHO. My neighbor puts a bunch in mason jars with holes cut in the top. One day he walked out of his house and almost stepped on a western diamondback that was coiled up ON the jar. Either that snake didn't give a shit...or they don't work. I don't think they work. I spread some around my property two years ago because we had 7 rattlesnakes in about a 2 month span. Shot them all and was looking for a solution. All the mothballs did was smell bad when it got hot out. Most "snake repellant" is a mix of moth ball crystals and cat litter. Bottom line, the only way I was able to get rid of them was to get rid of their food source. Went to domyownpestcontrol.com and bought some Contrac or Final Blox and bait stations. Killed off the majority of the field mice running around in short order and the snakes left shortly after. Didn't have another until we came across a single one last September...but that's better than multiple snakes... |

Some of the pricing on that web-site isn't bad, thanks. |
