I have a ph of about 5.5 in my house. It is well water. I believe the water hardness was about 50. We are getting a rust colored stain from water sitting in the toilet bowl.
The pump and tank are in the crawl space which is about 4 foot tall. The PH neutralizer tanks i have seen are too tall. Does anyone know of a short tank or another option? The floor in the crawl space in concrete and I don't really want to dig down. Breaking concrete while hunched over doesn't sound fun. Above the tank is a bedroom so I don't want to install it there either. The water heater in in the utility room which is at the other end of the house. Would it be wise to run the pipes the length of the house and back again? |

You need to regularly service the neutralizer don't you? If so then a location for easy servicability should be the priority even if it means you have to plumb from one end of the place and back. This Most acid neutralizers are water softener sized, I know of no lowboys. Odd the rust color, I am used to seeing bluish stains with acidic water, but I'm sure your water chemistry is different. 50 is SUPER hard water Hopefully, with that acidic water, hopefully they used no copper. |

The house did sit empty for about 6-8 weeks. we did go over to flush the toilet every couples days after we saw the stains start. All the copper pipes have been replaced with PVC over the years. |

All the copper pipes have been replaced with PVC over the years. Those stains could be iron bacteria, not related to the acidic water. Suggest clean them and live there actively for a bit to see if they are really a problem with normal water use. |
