I had my house built 8 years ago, and slowly the A/C unit has been leaning to one side. Well this summer it was so hot and dry it has really dropped and I didn't notice it. I was thinking of releveling it but was curious if this would hurt it or help it since it has probably been this way all summer.

Needs to be level to keep the oil level inside the compressor correct.

It's also hard on the fan bearings when it's not level.

However - be CAREFUL when changing the level - and try to do it ONCE - and pack dirt or concrete under the pad.  You will put a bind on your copper lines depending on how they are run.  The *best way* to handle this job is to pump all the refrigerant back into the coil, disconnect the lines and electrical, re-level the pad or pour a new larger one with concrete, and then install new dryers, vacuum, and re-connect the lines and adjust refrigerant levels.

I just waited till one of my units was replaced due to age, and had them hold off for an hour while I re-leveled the pad.  I have a strong slope in the yard, so I will come back an put in concrete and rebar underneath it where it sticks out/overhangs.

Lift up on unit and insert properly sized spacer pads on the low side. Move only as much as need be to level it.
