My electric leaf blower/vac isnt working.  The switch is broken.  I took it apart and got the switch out, and the contact point was broken apart on the inside.  I wrote the manufacturer for help getting the official part number or a lead on a replacement part with no response.  Searching for the various markings and numbers on the switch has turned up a few other people in search of the switch, but nothing more.  I took the switch to a couple hardware stores and radio shack and no luck.  I don't know the technical terms to describe the switch, so finding and ordering a generic replacement online has been virtually impossible.  I can make something close in shape/size fit if need be, but it has to work the same.  Basically there are 3 lines running to the switch.  One runs to a circuit board before hitting the switch.  These connect on either end of the 3 position switch so as one gives enough power to run the electric motor at one speed and the other at a higher speed.  A third line connects in the middle of the switch.  When the switch is in the middle position the unit is off.  I assume the middle lead is the ground and throwing the switch to one end moved the broken metal rocker inside to one end connecting metal points between the lead and the ground, making a circuit.  Throwing it the other way did the same with the other lead, and putting it in the middle connected neither.

What is this switch called.  Any suggestions where I might find one?

Crappy cell phone pics for reference:

Appears to be a 3 position rocker switch similar to this >Click Me<  I can't tell from the pics exactly what you need but that appears close.

Pretty close.  Mine off is in the middle.  I suppose that doesnt matter if I can move the leads around.  I'd like to get a peek at the back and some dimensions though.

Is there anything marked on the switch, or anything I can tell you about it that might help identify it?

rocker switch, SPDT w/center off.  sometimes this type is also referred to as "ON/OFF/ON".

rocker = type of action
SPDT = single pole double throw.
center off = means there is a "no connection" position of the rocker mechanism.

ETA
the contacts are rated at 16A at 125Vac.

this is probably "OEM only" and you are not going to find one through "normal" channels.  i do this for a living and i couldn't.

measure the external dimensions of the switch, or the corresponding rectangular cutout in your appliance, and we can find a substitute to drop in.  please measure the depth as well, in case it sits in a shallow area.

e.g. this one snaps into a 1" x 0.5" rectangular cut-out...

I've had good success with google finding parts for things like this.  Schematics and parts lists, as well as sources, usually come right up.  Did you try that?  I know it's obvious, and probably the first thing you did, but just trying to help.

Wow... thanks!  I'll get the measurements later & report back.  Is it possible that the contacts have 2 ratings?  I don't have the switch to look at right now, but I thought it had 2 sets of numbers on it (one faded), but it is possible that one line was Amps and the other Volts.

Yeah everything I thought I found would lead to nothing.  It's an off brand Remington blower.

You can find it at a decent auto parts store or even a electronics store.

I have a compound miter saw with a failed switch.  NO chance of finding a correct replacement (cheap off brand), so I bought a toggle switch rated for the right amperage, then mounted it in a hole I drilled in the housing.  I'm the only one who uses the saw, so the fact I lost the blade brake doesn't matter, and it's perfectly safe for now.  Obviously I will never sell it or even give it away, and I didn't lose the use of it over a switch.  Not good, but it works through the use of a little creativity.

Ordered that replacement online.  Perfect fit and form.  Works well so far.  Thanks again!
