last weekend, while i was washing the windows around my entry, i noticed some water leaking over the pane and running down the inside.

first question, is, its silicone sealer thats used around the seals of a non-moveable window pane, correct?

second, im thinking of taking a razor and cutting off any bead thats currently there, and then putting a new bead of (silicone?) in its place, to seal the crack.  is this the right thing to do?

thanks!

Just try to use the window and door silicone.

One thing about silicone: You cannot paint over it. If you're going to be painting these window sashes, use a polyurethane-based sealant in lieu of silicone. And yes, the poly-based caulks are just as messy to work with as the silicone.

I just did mine about 5 months ago, go to walmart!

They sell a caulk remover tool, caulk is what that seal is called around the window. They also sell new caulk and the gun to apply it, just look for the one labeled doors and windows, you will spot it right away.

All of it should be under 20 bucks man, its an easy fix. If you wanted to be a real bum you could just replace the parts of the seal that are broken.

Before you go cutting out the sealant and re doing it. Are you positive that is where the water penetrates from ? I've seen water do some funny stuff when it comes to leaks. I've traced water damage through 2 floors and up to a roof on more than one occasion. Also bad or no flashing above a window or door unit is suspect as well.
