For the tail lights, the yellow wire powers both the turn AND the brake, and the brown powers the tail. Other side is the same, except it's a green instead of a yellow.
When I start the truck, the trailer lights are on. When I press the brake tho, they turn OFF. The turning signals work, tho. However, with the truck off but the key in the ignition, the lights are normally off, but the brakes come on when I press the brake pedal. What the hell? This is really frustrating. eta: Amber side markers are powered by the brown circuit as well, and they WORK. |

Thanks, that looks exactly like the diagram I followed. |

Check your ground-hope you're not trying to ground through the hitch ball. Nick yep a bad ground will cause you to pull your hair out ETA: check yout truck side plug the wire harness you have for the trailer is for one wire for each function your truck might be wired for one wire to power the tail and brake thus eliminating one wire on your trailer |

Check your ground-hope you're not trying to ground through the hitch ball. Nick Yeah, that's what I thought might be the problem. I secured the safety ground around a bolt affixed to the frame, so it should be good, but I'll try again. Do you think it could be the ground for each individual light? They're supposedly grounded through the bolts holding the light to the frame. If that was the problem tho, why would the turn signal work but not the brake? Or why would the turn signal work (on, off, on off, etc) but leave the brake on all the time, except when I pressed the pedal? |

Quoted: yep, it was a poor ground on the bolts to the trailer. sanded the rust off the trailer and everything works fine now. Thanks guys. Thought that might be the case. As for why it acts like that, there is a diode inline to keep the turns from backfeeding the brakes, since both functions share the same filament. Nick |
| I have on occasion had to run a ground wire from the plug to the battery. It depends on how old and corroded your vehicle is. Also check for a ground straps from the frame to the body. They can be broken or missing. It never hurt to sand or grind the area under the strap connections to insure a good ground. Paint over the connection when you are done to save it from corrosion. |
