I just watched Jaws.  I hadn't seen it in many years.  It was great, really great.

The mother who loses her son at the beach did a fantastic acting job.  The irony in the scene where she confronts the Chief is very well done, too.

"I think we're gonna need a bigger boat."

"Farewell and adoo to you fair Spanish maidens, Farewell and adoo to you ladies of Spain, For we received orders for to sail back to Boston,..."

The story of the USS Indianapolis has to be one of the greatest story telling scenes in all of movie history.  It is also a great story of the trials and tribulations of the men of US Navy during World War 2.  It was through his movie I first heard of the story.  Back then, I thought it was all made up.  Ha!

"Guys, I think he's come back for his afternoon feeding."

"Smile you son of a bitch."   KABOOM!  Take note of the nice M1 Garand, too.

I saw it several times when it was first ran in the theater.

After a while I'd go to a showing and when something Extra was going to happen, like Bruce the Shark jumping out of the water, I'd quickly turn my head and watch the reaction of everybody else in the theater.  Watching so many people suddenly jump back was amusing in itself.

I really liked the way Richard Dreyfus went from hysterical drunken laughter to dead serious so quickly:
"You were on the Indianapolis?"

It's one of the few movies I can watch over and over and never get tired of.

It is amazing what that movie did to the beach communities when it came out.

I've heard that the Indianapolis monologue was written by John Milius, though he recieved no credit for it in the film.

That's a understatement.

The book is an awesome read also.

I've watched it so many times that I have caught errors in it!  When I was 4 or 5 they put up a huge screen on a side street in my old neighborhood and played it for everyone for free....good times, good times

Before the movie came out, I read the book.  It is one of those books that grabs you right from the beginning.

Of course, when the movie came out, I had to see it.

Going out in the ocean has never been the same for me since then.

Yes, we are not talking about Jaws 2 and certainly not discussing Jaws 3D here.  This is about the original Jaws - the good movie.
