I just bought the collector's edition on DVD. I had seen the movie before, but now that I am an aspiring gun nut, I realize how pro gun this movie is.
I never caught the part where the Cuban military guy tells his people to go to the local gun store and look for the forms that have 4473 written on them (ATF form, duh) and that will give them the names and addresses of the local gun owners. Then all gun owning people were rounded up because they knew that they would cause trouble for them. The one guy was shot, because he had a few guns missing. They wouldn't have known that without all of the paperwork. It would make complete sense for an invader to do that. I was just really excited that a pro gun movie existed. It was also interesting to see at the very beginning, they put the world situation up on the screen, talking about NATO being dissolved, and Mexico in civil war and such. Kind of scary because the current world situation is resembling the scenario they laid out. Terrible acting, but I still love that movie. |

There is a Collector's Edition? I need to get it.... I wonder if I can snag it off the net in HD-DVD since I don't own a blue ray player. Yeah, I found it at Best Buoy for like 14.99 or something. It has an extras disc with a bunch of stuff, I haven't watched the second disc yet though. |

No need to worry about foreign invaders....

** Geezer Talk Warning**
When this movie came out, almost no one owned a legal semi-auto AK-47 variant/clone. IIRC the movie guns were Egyptian made AKMs imported by Steyr. A friend of mine ( wealthy lawyer) bought one and 100 rounds of Hornady imported Lapua ammo that he re- hand loaded with one of those Lee Loaders. You guys bitch about AK ammo prices now ? It was $40 bucks in 1980's dollars for twenty. /** Geezer Mode off **

John Milius the writer and director of Red Dawn is a big time gun guy and very right wing. He is also the Apocalypse Now screenwriter, Conan the Barbarian auther, and a former NRA board member. Robert E. Howard actually wrote 'Conan the Barbarian'. Robert E. Howard |

Quoted: Quoted: The 2007 Guinness Book of World Records judged Red Dawn the most violent movie in history. WTF???? ![]() How is that even possible in 2007. Source? Because they clearly haven't watched any movie since Red Dawn was released to think that. It looks like it made the Guinness records the year AFTER it was made. Which would make sense, because up until then, movies were a little tamer than they are now. http://www.helium.com/items/115820-most-violent-films-ever-made Violent movies that are fun to watch... I'm talking about GOOD movies that just happen to be violent. Here is a top ten of the GOOD movies that are violent. Basically this is a disclaimer: If you are looking for just violence that makes no sense watch the news. Also these movies are in no particular order: (6) Red Dawn - Finally an American movie in the top ten and this movie is in there strictly for nostalgic purposes. At the time it was in the Guinness World book of Records for the most violent film (check the edition a year after it was made). Plus the mullet returns with good ol' Patrick Swayze. 1984, pretty violent. 2007, wouldn't even scare a 4 year old. |

Make fun of me for having a HD-DVD all you want.....
I'm getting nice movies on HD quality for $10 a pop.... Just snagged Season 1 of Battlestar Galactica for $11.00, We were Soldiers, I Am Legend, Flags of our Fathers, and Letters from Iwo Jima for $20 total.... If it's not out on HD-DVD I don't care.... I'll get it on regular DVD.... Blu-Ray just doesn't do it for me yet simply because of price. As for Beta and Laser Disc..... Beta was a better format then VHS and a larger version of Beta was the storage medium of choice for professional Broadcasting for many years until the birth of Digital Storage. Laser Disc is still great for audio. |

The thing I don't get is where the hell did all the people they freed from the "Movie Theater" prison camp go? Seems like they could have had a larger force and possibly even coordinated with U.S. forces to provide intelligence while better directing their operations to support U.S. forces.
The Soviets took the town for the railroad junction and because it was important to communication through the old landlines. So why didn't the U.S. bomb the railroad junctions and why weren't the Wolverines destroying as much track and derailing every train they could? At the end the train is packed with munitions heading in or heading out seems like it would have been smart to destroy the railroad instead of just shooting-up the town for the sake of distraction while their friends slipped through the lines. They say they're going to remake "Red Dawn." I hope not, because they'll just ruin this great movie with a virtual ton of bullshit liberal crap. |
