Just one of my favorite all time films. I remember watching this film as a kid when HBO would show it and I watch it when ever it's on Retroplex.....

I love the acting, the plot, everything....

If I was my age (24) in the 1920s-1930s I'd more then likely serve on a Gun Boat in China.....

I saw it as a kid in the theater... my folks took us. I didn't understand most of it. Still, it was very memorable.

In hte years since I have seen it as an adult. It was much better then.

My wife never watches war movies.  She has rented "Sand Pebbles" to watch it again.  It's a pretty good flick.  I get a kick out of McQueen's liberty cuffs on his uniform that can be seen when they are in the rowboat .  The Navy has some pretty cool traditions.

Great movie AND book!

Saw it on TV with my dad years ago, and fell in love.

I have GOT to find it on DVD.

Same here! My dad introduced me to Steve McQueen movies, this and Le Mans are up there. The beginning and middle aren't exactly action paked, but they do a great job of setting up the scene. I really dig this movie.

And don't forget to mention that Steve McQueen was a Navy vet, so his authenticity was unquestioned!

Actually, he was a Marine. Regardless, I always like when the actors are former military, as the authenticity is always a great thing to see compared to most Hollywood types.

Too bad you don't see that much these days

Ditto.

Really an epic movie. McQueen and Attenborough were on fire during the that decade.
