I heard from a co-worker today that in Alien there was an alternate ending where it killed Ripley and then sent a distress call in her voice!

Is this true? I looked all over my dvd (not the Quadrilogy one) and couldn`t find anything on this. Is this scene for real?

But it didn't speak English.

From Wikipedia:

Alien originally was to conclude with the destruction of the Nostromo while Ripley escapes in the shuttle Narcissus. However, Ridley Scott conceived of a "fourth act" to the film in which the Alien appears on the shuttle and Ripley is forced to confront it. He pitched the idea to 20th Century Fox and negotiated an increase in the budget in order to film the scene over several extra days.[21][48] Scott had wanted the Alien to bite off Ripley's head and then make the final log entry in her voice, but the producers vetoed this idea as they believed that the Alien had to die at the end of the film.[48]

From what I have read Ridley Scott originally wanted to have that as the ending to the first Alien movie. 20th Century Fox didn't like the ending so they asked him to make the ending a little more upbeat.

I am pretty sure there was never any film made with this ending.

edit: yeah what ARinKCMO wrote.

Me too.  The idea of the alien speaking English sounds incredibly lame.

There's a deleted scene when Ripley was going through the vent shafts she found the Captain still alive but cocooned to the wall like the people in the reactor in Aliens. I thought it was a decent scene that gave more insight into the alien, too bad it didnt make it into even the director's cut.

Uh...it did make it into the directors cut.  Scott said it messed up the pacing of the escape scene (and didn't look realistic enough), and cut it out of the original theatric cut.  A small bit of it is included in the Director's cut edition, even though Scott really didn't feel that the movie needed to have the extra scenes.  As he put it he 'cut those scenes out for a reason.'

When reading the wikipedia entry, I was surprised how much real 'body parts' where used.  I always wondered how they made the facehugger and egg interior and such look so disgustingly real.  Well, cow stomachs and cut up fish guts (and milk and pasta for the android) will work just fine!

From wikipedia regarding the alien's face, It had part of a human skull as the "face", which was hidden under the smooth cover of the head". Pretty creepy.

a classic movie and classic series. Aliens is 1 of the all time best sci fi movies in my opinion.

? I assume there was an alien book, in the book did they elaborate on the origins of the crashed ship, what planet the aliens were from or anything like that? I did think it would have been better if they hadn't suggested the aliens were flying around space in a ship, would have been better if they simply lived on that planet and had a distress signal to lure someone in.

Check out the Aliens comics by Dark Horse. They're collecting them into omnibus editions that can be had for about $16 a pop online (Amazon). Lots of fun stuff.

IIRC, the aliens were a biological weapon being carried around by the giant creature the crew found dead in the seat aboard the ship.  Apparently one of his own toys got him.

Now that I've seen it, I agree with the decision to cut it.  In addition to the pacing issue, it brings up the question as to why the alien would be cocooning hosts when there were no eggs available.  Instinct perhaps?  Furthermore, since they obviously were not 'impregnated', why would Dallas ask Ripley to kill him?

The film was better off without that scene.

for real? I was in like 7th grade when me and my sister went to see it in the theaters and I've seen it a few times without paying close attention to on dvd. I completely forget that they find a creature in the ship. So if they're biological weapons are they really aliens technically?

Yes, they found a ~12' tall fossilized creature seated at what appears to be the controls of the ship, with a giant exit wound from his torso. They'd still be aliens since they were a non-native species.

I think watching the gun's ammo counter go down little bit by little bit, but not being able to see what was going on built a lot more tension.

interesting.
I've wondered if they ever had any intentions of doing more aliens movies. I don't associate the alien predator movies with the aliens story myself.
Could it ever be aliens without ripley though....

I don't foresee anything any time soon.  The fan base is there and it can be done with out Ripley if they get the right cast and director.  And they better stay away from the cloning angle.

The wikipedia entry says that Weaver is interesting in doing another one, but only if Scott is on board.  It also sounded like she'd only want to do one that focused more on the Aliens' background.  i don't really see how they could do a Prequel type movie with Ripley.  Nor do I see how they could have Ripley in it now, other than re-cloning again.  Perhaps a 'reboot' style movie, but in that regard, just let it not happen!  the AvP movies have done enough 'rebooting' to both series....

Actualy in one of the few Alien books Ripley was in and it later turned out she was a android such as Bishop but unaware she was an android until the end, even her "blood" was red.  IIRC even the Colonial Marine detatchment was a set of Androids too and programed to be in the dark.  It wasn't found out till they were in deep shit on a planet with 2 alien hives going at it and caught in the middle.

If done that way then I'm for it.  But ya the AvP set was enough far as the re-booting.

The movie was not adapted from any book. Any books were written after the fact.

Only way I see of getting Ripley into another one is if they would re-make the first, but shoot it from the alien's perspective. This way flashbacks could fill in it's history.
Where it came from.
How the space jockey captured it.
Etc.

Hmmmm, not a bad idea, Hollywood, you listening? I'll take a percentage of the gross.
(and a starlet on my arm at the premiere).

all intersting comments. Could be it's simply better left undone. The original's to good to be redone and if they did a different take who knows what effort they'd put into it. To many movies nowadays think a movie has to be "hip" and be cast with a bunch of youthful "hip" characters. Only if they did it from a perspective that it had to carry the aliens saga torch, not be a movie for the masses. who knows.
