Watch that shit. I personally authorize man card reissue to one Keanu Reeves. |
It fits then, David Ayer - the guy who made this movie - makes one kind of movie. Decent cop takes on crooked cops. Training Day, Dark Blue, and now Street Kings. I saw Street Kings tonight. It takes Keanu about 15 minutes into the movie to find his groove, but once the movie gets rolling it's pretty damn good. There were a couple times where I was like, "this acting is just ridiculous", but to be honest, by the time the credits rolled I was saying to my buddies, "This movie was actually somewhat kickass!" There is some seriously graphic shootouts, some nice 1911 porn (Springfield Operators?) and decent weapons handling by Keanu and crew. Add to that the fact that the writer/director has no problem killing off important characters, and I really didn't know how this one was going to end. This really is probably the only movie in theaters that I would reccomend to anyone. |

I just got back from this flick and I enjoyed it a lot. I would say that if you're into corrupt-cop drama such as Dark Blue, The Shield, and Training Day, you would like this movie. A few nice shootouts (with people reloading!), some very humorous parts (This might have even mowed down some of your grandpapa-san's back in the day!) and a pretty decent storyline. Nothing exceptionally creative, but well done nonetheless. The only big improvement I could recommend would be if somebody better played the lead. Sorry, but Keanu's usual crap-acting was present here, though not bad enough to ruin the movie. I just think with a better actor it would have elevated the movie quite a bit higher. If you're into the other movies/shows I listed, I don't think you'll be disappointed with this movie. It was better than I expected. |
awesome! I will now go see this film! I was going to see it regardless..but your review convinced me! thanks!

Street Kings was a most excellant adventure

Woa-hoh! Spoiler alert! |

I already saw this movie twice: The first time it was called "Training Day." The Second time it was called "Harsh Times." The creator is the same guy for "Street Kings," and he's getting worse not better. It's always centered around a white guy with a latino love interest who is in LA and is somehow related to law enforcement. |
i'll just wait then, since its costs me about a buck when i figure i would get it with netflix. |
| just saw it last nite, shit was awesome imo. very gritty, reminded me a lot of training day (which is not a bad thing at all). not to mention i was surprised at the cast, a lot of faces i recognized, all done well.....and who's that hot chick w/keanu? she was smooookin'!! |

If you are a James Ellroy fan, this is a pretty good flick. Reeve's character is very much like Bud White, Dave Klein, and Eldon Perry. Detective who has done some dirt and has to make things right- usually the very bloody way. Whitaker- he is much like Dudley Smith, Jack Van Meter.... And House, well there is Ed Exley to a point, same with Disco. |
