I am ready to make the leap and have read all the standard pros and cons for each. I am looking for peer input at this point. I was getting ready to pull the trigger on the 50" Visio plasma at Costco (around $1200). What do you have and why? |

I bought a Panasonic 50 inch 720p plasma on sale for $1500...incredible picture, great TV. I have a friend who bought a high end Samsung 1080p 52 inch LCD and paid like $2500 for it and my picture is just as good. The blacks on plasma are darker and it has better contrast. BTW, don't listen to people who talk about burn-in---that has been taken care of in new plasmas and doesn't occur much at all. |
Go for a LCD with a 120hz refresh rate. ETA: Samsung also has some new back light technology that helps with black. I have two LCD's bought a year apart: 40" Samsung 720P 42" Phillips Ambilight 2 1080p |

Why all the love for LCD? Aren't they considerably more expensive? I do have a large window and sliding glass door in the room where the TV will be. It will get plenty of daytime use. Maybe I need to look closer at an LCD to cut down on the ambient light reflection. Do any of yo own a Visio? They seem to be very reasonable as far as price goes. |
I have the same problem. The reflection is a pain especially in dark scenes. Let me know what you get and how it works out for you. |

I voted LCD, but it really depends on what you will use it for. I had one of the new Vizio V047LF's. I recently returned it because the OTA tuner seems to be weak, had lots of audio dropouts. I replaced it with a Mitsubishi 46144. The Mitsubishi cost 2x what the Vizio did, and it is not worth it. Picture quality on the Vizio is as least as good at the Mitsubishi. My particular set suffers from horrible backlight leakage. I also don't like the 120Hz feature. I can see horizontal banding at certain times that I believe is caused by the 120Hz processing. I plan to swap it out for the new Samsung 46A550 as soon as the store gets one in this week. Whatever you buy, get it from a place that will let you return it if you are not happy with it. |

LCD if your room is bright for sure. Overall I lean LCD, but I will concede that in a room that is not overly bright plasma does have a more pleasing picture. LCD has improved by leaps and bounds in the last 2-3 years. Still not as natural looking as plasma, but IMO they are closing the gap every year. FWIW I actually have a 56" 1080p DLP in living room (which I LOVE, fantastic picture!) and a 32" 768p LCD in bedroom. I've never personally owned a plasma. |
Your TV should not act as a mirror With my Mits, I can turn it on OUTSIDE and not worry about glare. So during the day I can have all my windows open and the sun shining right through our sliding glass door - and the picture is just as bright and clear as night. |

Good score! |
I picked it up at http://www.vanns.com/shop/servlet/category/desc/91 They have a bundle as well where you can add a $120 Harmony Universal Remote for $49 (limit 1). Bought the Harmony remote with TV then sold the remote. They are going for $80 to $100 on ebay |
Fry's Samsung 1080p 52" LCD $1999.00..it was a great deal. Fry's in Houston |

| Plasma, unless it has to go in an area with a lot of day light. LCD has a few advantages, light weight, low glare, no magnetic interferance. When it comes to picture though plasma had LCD beat hands down. The Pioneer Kuro has the best picture of any TV set on the market hands down. I would say Panasonic is second. |
