Today I got my new cable box. Hooked up with the HDMI cable into my new Hitachi 62" LCD rear projection tv. Now, when the inputs are switched to cable, there is no sound out of the home theater system. Yesterday I watched the NASCAR race, before I got the cable box today, and the sound was fine. The sound works fine for the Xbox's and the DVD player. I was told that there is some FCC rules regarding HDMI and pirating videos... What do I need to do? Get a composit cable or a optical cable, or ???? Thanks for any help.. |

I'm assuming the following and correct me if I'm wrong: 1.) Cable box is connected via HDMI to your TV directly? 2.) Do you have any other connections from you cable box to your Receiver (optical, digital coax, red/white(stereo))? If you answered yes to 1 and no to 2, then the only sound would be coming from your TV as HDMI carries both audio and video. If you want audio to come from your receiver, you need 1.) Either a receiver that can support audio via HDMI or 2.) Either Optical, Digital Coax, or Red/White stereo cables connected from the cable box to your receiver. |
Good advice. I would use optical from the cable box to the receiver. People occasionally complain about lip-synch issues with that kind of setup but I have never seen it with mine. |
My answer is yes to 1 and no to 2...Thank you for your help..I was leaning in that direction, but I'm a newbie to the HDTV world and wanted some concrete info before I tried anything. Thanks again!! |
I'm beginning to get addicted to Home Theater stuff too...I just got a Hitachi 62" LCD for $1200...The freaking Xbox360, at 1080i, is just breathtaking... My next thing will be a better sound system.. Again, thanks for the help. EDIT TO ADD- Today I bought a Optical Cable and plugged it into the TV and ran it to the HT receiver..now the digital sound works the the HDMI cable form the HD cable box.. A big thanks to metalsaber for the help! |
