I looked around some pawnshops and thrift stores in my area and they really didn’t have much. Does anyone have a suggestion for a young teens first setup….lets say <$400? Is it possible? |

Done Upgrade path: When you can add a WiiM Mini Streamer: ~$75.65 now - Optional but recommended on the 2nd input. Budget stretch: Get the Edifier R1280DBs $200 now and you're still under $400 before tax. Upgrade path: With these you can get an active sub later and then the WiiM mini Streamer. |

I don't have experience with them, but I've heard good things about the Fosi Audio amps. https://www.amazon.com/stores/FosiAudio/page/2E422992-216E-4A2E-A0C7-0FB3275CACD4?lp_asin=B0C36S8DCT&ref_=ast_bln&store_ref=bl_ast_dp_brandlogo_sto You can get those for $80 or less. That's about all I've got that'll get you under $400. I think that'll be hard when it comes time for picking the turntable. There are a lot of highly reviewed ~$100 speakers out there. I think you'll come in at right about your budget, but you'll have to do a lot of personal research I bet. |

There's somebody local to me selling a nice new Yamaha receiver, Denon turntable with upgraded cart, and actually pretty good Polk speakers for $350. Hell of deal for a lot of stuff that's going to work pretty good. |

About 10 years ago my mom gave me her old Philips 877 turntable from the '70s along with about 60 records. I was also given another 60 or so classic rock albums from the late '70s and early '80s. There's a ton of great original pressings in those collections, and over the years I've added a bunch of high-quality ones myself. After swapping in a NOS needle I lightly used it until the kids came along. At that point I had to shelve it with the rest of my stereo gear for the last few years we just didn't have a safe space where they couldn't destroy everything. Recently I put together a nice headphone listening setup at my desk and upgraded the cart to a 2M Bronze. After a few months of heavy use, everything on the Philips started breaking. I don't have the time or patience to fix it right now, so back on the shelf it goes. It was a shame to have all those nice pressings sitting there unused, so I don't know what came over me, but I splurged on an open-box Rega P8. Really hoping I don't still have buyer's remorse when it shows up. Tell me I did the right thing! My TT was delivered today but my enthusiasm is a little muffled. Yesterday, I felt a sudden change in pressure and my ears popped. My right ear started ringing very loudly and i can barly hear out of it. It hasnt changed since then so I have an appointment to have it checked out but from what I understand, depending on what it is, it will probably take a few weeks before my hearing is back to normal.

HDPE LP Inner Sleeves Record cleaning - Some items you will need are listed below: Most links are to Music Direct or Amazon, but you can shop around and equivalents may be found on Amazon or elsewhere. Beware of poor quality fakes. Stylus cleaning fluid: AT607 stylus cleaner Stylus dust cleaning brush: Stylus dust brush LP Dust Brush: AT LP6011a Dust Brush You will need a good way to clean dirty used records or reclean ones that have been exposed to dust and fingerprints. I suggest as a good starter set, getting the Spin Clean system and get a cheap black file folder rack (from thrift store) to set the just cleaned LPs on while they dry. Also get a couple of soft micro fiber towels. Spin Clean: The basic Spin Clean System Accurate digital stylus presure guage: There are some really expensive ones out there but some of the ones on Amazon work fine and are not terribly expensive. Case in point: Riverstone Audio stylus force guage These are the basics that will get you started in the HI FI LP hobby. Others may suggest cheaper or more expensive options, but I know these work. I'm old and been playing LPs for nearly 50 years. I've seen some good items come and go, and I've seen some pure snake oil crap too. HTH Geeze. So the RT85 showed up today. Well packaged but shipped in retail container. Everything inside was well wrapped so no complaints. Setup was fairly painless once I got past my inability to read and comprehend. Kept messing up the tonearm adjustment and ended up watching a youtube video. I was adjusting the tracking force wrong. After getting past that, I put on an album. I decided on Creed - Live in San Antonio, you haters can hate all you want. Got the walnut finish, looks good. Setup is inexpensive, didn't need to be anything fancy. Klipsch bookshelves, Fosi X2 preamp and speakers are powered by a free Insignia receiver a buddy gave me. Eventually I'll fix the wire management on everything. Right now I'm gonna rock out to Creed and piss off my neighbors.
