I've got a RCA surround sound receiver I've had for 5+ years (so old it doesn't have HDMI ports). It hardly ever gets turned up past half way in volume. It has recently started turning itself off randomly while I'm using it.
Is this a precursor to it dying for good? |

It could be an overtemp condition that causes it to shut itself off to avoid internal damage. Check the vents to make sure they aren't clogged with dust. If they are, vaccum them clean.
In every unit I've ever had, turning the volume knob half way up is too much. One third is usually about the max you can expect without the onset of clipping (distortion), etc. Is it going to go for good? Dunno. |
