I went to see this movie this evening. I enjoyed it a lot. It's on my list to buy when it comes out on Bluray.
Watchman (Harry Dean Stanton) to Bruce Banner after seeing the Hulk fall from sky and change back into Bruce Banner. "Are you an alien? Are you from outer space? "No" "Then, Mister, you've got a condition." The Hulk, talking to himself after trashing Loki who remains motionless on the floor. Hulk was really, really good - much better than the previous movies. "Puny god!" <–– funniest line in the whole movie. Also hillarious - Hulk is standing next to Thor. With no warning, and no dialogue, Hulk punches Thor sideways and knocks him off-screen. Joss Whedon directed and wrote the script? He also did Firefly and Serenity, right? |

One of my favorite movies of all time, and my very favorite superhero movie –– almost like the realization of my comics-laden childhood dreams and wishes. I pre-ordered the DVD/BR combo pack from Disney, not sure when they ship but it is usually about the same time as the retail release. |

Was a decent movie. I think you hit most of the funny parts. No way, the script was full of them. "Better clench up, Legolas." I hadn't seen the movie until today, I got a kick out of it. I wasn't very interested in a random superhero ensemble like the comics love, but Marvel's done an excellent job with these movies and the characters feel right. The huge end battle could have been more interesting, I think. I was actually reminded of Dragon Wars and a few other not-so-great "aliens invade... one city" flicks which at least had a little more rationale. Even Battleship gave a legitimate explanation for why the aliens were stuck near Hawaii. By comparison, Avengers felt like the invasion (which apparently hurt no civilians anywhere) was just a plot device. Maybe years of exposure to indie movies, anime, and video games, have instilled in me a desire to see action actually matter. I'd rather see crappy effects used to make an emotional impact, than the fanciest and most expensive modern CGI used so forgettably. But the Avengers' cast, characters, and screenplay make the rest of the movie work. I loved Iron Man and enjoyed Iron Man 2. I'll probably get the other movies to flesh it out, now that I've seen their characters not suck. |
| I totally agree about wanting substance along with the action. My friends go see movies like that only for how good the effects are or the sheer volume of action (as one of my friends says "I was entertained so it was a good movie."). However, I'm no longer impressed by CGI. Anyone can do it now. Explosions and shooting scenes are great, but they have to have a purpose and not just be filler. The Matrix is (IMO) a good example in using the action in a meaningful way, and at the time, had truly impressive CGI. |

Captain_Morgan there is not a big enough +1 for how much I agree with this, and this for movies in general! |
Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 announced.... guess that's my boxset out of date...

IM3 has been filming for a month or two. Awesome. edit: Great avatar. Huge Macross/Robotech fan. They were/are filming down in SC, near where a friend of mine lives. He does some film work and tried to get in on the project, but couldn't. It's a pretty highly sought-after project and contacts alone wouldn't get you on it, apparently. I was a huge Robotech fan growing up. now I lean more toward Macross. Harmony Gold just didn't take it all that seriously. I don't much wonder why they're hesitant to release any other Macross series here. Too bad, because Frontier was probably the best Macross since the original, especially in the episode where they did a tribute to "Farewell, Big Brother" (Macross: Pine Salad). At the beginning of that episode, I remarked that they were going to "Folker that guy". I have to admit, I'm a total sucker for fast pack Valkyries. As soon as I find a picture that translates well, I'm going to put one of them up. |

Hell, they've already announced Iron Man 3, Thor 2, Captain America 2, Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers 2 and Ant Man. Marvel's going crazy with films. At some point, they're going to produce a stinker in this group (my money is with Guardians of the Galaxy––-among the team are a sentient tree and a talking, gun-wielding racoon) but all of them have ranged from decent to excellent so far, so I will give them the benefit of the doubt. |

Quoted: Oh, and BTW, Fox studios has expressed interest in making a crossover with the Marvel characters to which they own the rights: X-Men and the Fantastic Four. That's one of the nifty things IMO about the expanding Marvel-movie universe –– the potential for more cross-overs and cameos. They were staples of the old comics but, for multiple obvious reasons (time, money, contracts, continuity) they have been problematic in the films until recently. As a kid of the '60s/'70s who geeked out every time a character from another mostly-unrelated comic showed up unexpectedly in one I was reading (happened a lot back then), I like this. Now if DC would just get moving further along with a big screen JSA or JLA project... |

The problem there is, DC would have to do a bunch of solo movies first, to introduce characters that haven't been introduced already. At least a Flash and Wonder Woman movie, anyway. |

Yep, or at least solid plans/casting for enough of them to cast the core team. (And even that would be a huge gamble in H-wood terms.) I still hate that Whedon never got to do the Wonder Woman film back when he/they were talking about it... |

IIRC, they are planning on using the JL movie to reboot/springboard the next Batman set since Bale said he is done with his trilogy. A whole lot of anything happening though will most likely depend on the sink or swim of "Man of Steel". Flash and WW could also be cameos at first, since their new backstories will probably have little to do with written history. |

I was just re-watching this movie. I know it's been said before but Hulk's treatment of Loki is hilarious. I think Hulk's treatment of Loki might possibly be the best ass-woopin' in cinema history. If not, which other is better? It was neat seeing Thor taking on Hulk. It provided some perspective of how strong Thor can be. |
