Excuse me but I am not very tech advanced. If I buy a Blu ray player that hooks up to internet via ethernet. Can i plug it into my wireless router. Also I only have an old school TV with the A/V hook ups. Do I need an HDMI cable?

Yes you should be able to just plug it in the router and go.

I take it you just want to be able to watch netflix on the tv.I think most if not all bluray players still have analog outs so you can go RCA to your older tv but check the player you buy to make sure. You should probably look into getting a cheap HD tv for blurays and even netflix it's really a lot better otherwise buying blurays would be a waste of money.

I am planning on buying a HDTV someday. Thats part of my reasoning of getting a Blu Ray. I can still play regular dvds on the bluray player for now.

Without HDMI you won't have high def anything.
