Is there such a thing/software that lets one plug the player into the computer and drag and drop tracks directly from the CD without having to copy it first to the hard drive? I'm sure the answer is "yeah, since like, 2006, Methuselah." But I do appreciate your indulgence. |

Not sure what you are asking? Are you wanting to "extract" the tracks from a Walkman / Persoanl CD player onto your PC?
Your problem would be that your PC would need a sound card with an input jack , then some manner of connectivity could be achieved by joining "Walkman" to PC Soundcard... I must admit that I generally, throw in the CD and extract the tracks onto the hard disk via Windows Media Player.. |

Quoted: That's what I use iTunes for. (I use iTunes specifically because they dummy-proofed it to the point that even I can get it right.) There's a freeware program called CDex that rips CDs very quickly-spend an afternoon with your CD collection, and you can then drag & drop to your MP3 player. |

Some of us have larger collections. I still have my first CD that I got on Christmas '86. I work at home on and my desk has both my work and personal PC's sitting on it. I could rip between 30 and 60 CD's a day and it took me well over a month of work. I ripped to WMA lossless format using Easy CD Digital Audio Extractor. Once my lossless library was built, I used the converter in Easy CD to different formats. WMA 320 for my car and MP3 256 for my wife's car. Quoted:
I like iTunes for my wife's phone but the default quality sucks. AAC at 92kbps works fine for headphones but you can tell it is over-compressed even in her car. That's why she wanted minimum 256 kbps for her car.
