I was in Wal-mart picking up a copy of Book of Eli and saw this dvd on the rack. It looks like a good movie. I guess it was made in
2008, but just now being released in the US on dvd. It's a move about the Wing Chun Master lp Man who was Bruce Lee's Master. The trailer looks good. I put it on my Que on netflix, but there is a long wait. lp Man

Also I thought it would have subtitles, but it was dubbed in English which was much better. The one I rented had the Chinese dubbed into English, but not the Japanese. I had to go into the disk menu and turn on subtitles to catch what they were saying. That fight was brutal. I made sounds like someone was beating me up when I saw limbs go in unnatural directions. |
| Excellent action, and a half-way decent story. You really felt proud for Ip when asked by the Japanese Col. "What's your name?" after the major 10 Jap opponent ass-kicking, and Ip says "I'm just a Chinese." Riches to rags story, but he never lost his integrity, or his honor as a husband or a martial arts instructor in the face of overwhelming poverty and humiliation during the Japanese occupation. Didn't realize until the closing credits he was Bruce Lee's instructor in Wing Chun. |
