We live in a time when Satan seems to be having as much success in attacking the lives and homes of Christians as he does with unbelievers. I want to toss out a theory to perhaps uncover one of the enemy's successful tactics that may have contributed to this scenario.

Up until WW II most women were 'stay home Moms'. With so many men overseas, women had to 'man' the factories to support the war effort. This was fine, but when the men came marching home from the war, many women refused to leave their new found independance and return to their place in the home. Men contributed to this by their love of money as they thought it was great to have a second income.

This has not really helped the actual wealth of the families because cost of living will always rise to meet the income people have to spend. For example, a home in the age of the singel income household may have cost $30,000, but now we need two incomes to afford housing that begins over $100,000.

When my wife and I were first married, we saw the Word in Titus about women staying home. This was our first prayer of agreement that we would take God at His Word and live this way. After over 20 years of marriage, we can testify that God has always been faithful to perform His Word and my wife has never had to work outside our home.

It begins with a conviction that this way is the will of the Lord for you. A conviction differs from a belief in that there is no compromise when it is a conviction. There were times when I could not find a job that paid enough for us to live on one income. Whenever this happended, I worked a second job simultaneously so that we would not have to violate our conviction for my wife to be a keeper of the home. These testings of our faith were never long lived as the Lord always provided something better so we could again live on the one income.

By the way, lest anyone think that this is a passive position for a wife to take remember that this word 'keep' is the same word applied to Adam to dress and to 'keep' the garden. It means to guard and to defend. In fact, I John 5:18 promises that if we will 'keep' ourselves God's way that the wicked one will not be able to touch us.

The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.(Titus 2:3-5)

We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.(I Jn. 5:18)

Now, maybe we need to do the math. If God says that older women should teach the younger women to be keepers at home and that if we keep ourselves His way, the wicked one will not be able to touch us; Why do we suppose the enemy has tried so hard to keep the women from staying home? I am just asking the question. Could the reason that Satan is running rampant over even the homes and families of Christians be that economic issues have been used to remove the keepers of the home from their post?

It's long been a given that where women go, there men will follow (since Genesis, in fact)... so if a given culture is full of women who dress like prostitutes, act like prostitutes, and think a career as a porn star is something to be praised and sought after....that culture will be hard pressed to raise Christian men who live chaste and self-controlled lives.

I'm married, but my wife and I have no children.

She works outside the home.

If we had children we both strongly agree, she would be a "keeper at home."

My understanding is the phrase is intended at child rearing - that families with children should have a full time mom, the most important, exalted job in the world.

Well said.
