Bishop, you don’t even believe the ancient and apostolic belief that the Eucharist is the flesh of our Lord, the ‘how’ that is transubstantiation is irrelevant at that consequential dismissal. By that rejection, you do NOT in fact believe Jesus is who and what He says He is, literally. Because you do not believe He does what He said He will do. A well-timed example of my last post and I’m concerned on your behalf. Edit: to add, your ‘obvious love’ hasn’t resulted in obedience and your ‘eagerness’ doesn’t imply a full, true faith. Just to be clear. |

I very much doubt you're familiar with the Aristotelian particulars of transubstantiation as apposed to the broader doctrine of real presence, which you certainly seem to also reject. I believe in the name of Jesus…just not most of what He said, or enough to obey His ordinances, or in the Church He established and the teachings they carried by the Holy Spirit through persecution and martyrdom and manifold heresies. Only what I personally feel ‘draws’ me from my own understanding. The more one examines it the more disordered and insane that position reveals itself to be. |

While we're on the topic of Protestantism vs. Catholicism (and Orthodoxy, to a large degree), I sometimes check in on the Word of Faith church I came out of. I was there from 2016 through 2023. And while I was there, the only really anti-Catholic thing I remember him saying is that Mary would have been a horrible wife to remain ever-virgin. Checking in on the place recently via YouTube, he's made a few attacks against the Catholic Church in consecutive weeks, even going so far as to conflate it with progressive Protestantism. Last night, during their annual conference, a guest speaker made an appearance (he has bestowed the title Bishop upon himself), and made fun of people who practice "pious prayers". I don't remember this sort of thing happening there very much in the past, either. I wonder if these attacks against the flagship communion are in response to growing conversions to those ancient and apostolic groups. |

What authoritative, objective, and established faith are you contending for? If it is your "gut feel" faith, state so and contend away. John 1:1, 14 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. ...And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. What did the Apostles preach? Did they preach the gospel message? I believe them; not necessarily later dogmas. Do you believe and where do you place your faith? I'm standing on the Word of God. He is my Rock. Jesus is Lord, the Holy Spirit is my witness. Matthew 7:24-25 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock.” ~ Jesus the Apostle and High Priest of our calling Is your house built on the Rock? Jesus, He gives me new Life. I called on Him and He answered. --- That's why I trust Him. 1 Corinthians 10:4: “and all drank the same spiritual drink, for they were drinking from a spiritual rock which followed them; and the rock was Christ." see John 6:37 ... All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out. ~ Jesus Look here: The inspired Scripture consistently presents salvation as centered on Jesus Christ and His finished work, received by grace through faith. The gospel message itself is the complete and sufficient content of that saving faith. Nothing beyond it is required. Look here and believe: 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 “Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.” This is the message the Apostle Paul received and preached. It is the message by which people are saved. No additional dogma is listed here. Will you, by faith, receive the gospel message? Jesus Himself defines the work God requires: John 6:28-29 “Then they said to him, ‘What must we do, to be doing the works of God?’ Jesus answered them, ‘This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.’” The New Covenant never lists belief in later doctrinal developments as a condition of salvation. The faith once for all delivered to the saints is complete in the gospel of Christ. Jude 3 “Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints.” God relates to His people today through the fellowship of the Holy Spirit. Jesus is not a distant historical figure; He is alive. “I died, and behold I am alive forevermore” (see Revelation 1:18). Because He lives, those who believe are made alive in Him. Ephesians 2:4-5 “But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved”. Colossians 2:13 “And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses” This new life is not abstract. It is >personal communion<. The Holy Spirit brings us into living fellowship with the Father and the Son. A relationship that is worked/walked out daily with Him. 'Christ in you, the hope of glory'. 2 Corinthians 13:14 “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all”. The Holy Spirit takes what belongs to Christ and declares it to us (see John 16:14). He bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God (see Romans 8:16). He the Holy Spirit is the present, active bond by which the risen Christ indwells and sustains His people. The Holy Spirit is the Teacher who takes the things of Christ and discloses them to us. He seals those who believe the gospel. Christ is alive. We are made alive in Him. That is enough. Acts 10:42-43 ... And he commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one appointed by God to be judge of the living and the dead. To him all the prophets bear witness that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.” Love God, love people, shine, shine His Light (Jesus is the Light of the world). My brother, behold His wonderment. Fight the good fight of faith. So be it. What did you hope to accomplish with this thread? Now that you've asked me twice. Do not be dull of hearing. What does it say to you? The Word of God speaks to me. Do you hear the Word of God? Isaiah 55:9-11 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. “For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it. Deuteronomy 8:3 And he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD. Matthew 4:4 ... But he answered, “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” ~ Jesus the Apostle and High Priest of our confession John 6:63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life. ~ Jesus the Apostle and High Priest of our confession God has a purpose and plan for your life. His plan has not changed. Philippians 1:6 ... And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. ~ Paul the Lord's Apostle Philippians 2:12-13 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. ~ Paul the Lord's Apostle What will God accomplish in your Life? Romans 10:8-11 But what does it say? “THE WORD IS NEAR YOU, IN YOUR MOUTH AND IN YOUR HEART”—that is, the word of faith which we are preaching, that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. For the Scripture says, “WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.” ~ Paul the Lord's Apostle |

Gullskjegg You have asked the same question multiple times. I have answered it by pointing to Christ. One more time, clearly: I started this thread, and I hope to accomplish this: that the pure gospel of Jesus Christ would be set before every reader, that belief in Him is sufficient for salvation, that no later dogma is required, and that someone here might actually hear His Word, believe the One who sent Him, and pass from death to life. Will you stand on your own merit, or are you covered in His blood? Jesus, He is our Mercy seat. I want to know Him more. Mercy triumphs over judgment. Jesus, He is the answer. I am believing the Scriptures I have been meditating on today. Someone on the forum may actually read them. John 5:24-29 ESV “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life. Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live. For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself. And he has given him authority to execute judgment, because he is the Son of Man. Do not marvel at this, for an hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment.” ~ Jesus the Apostle and High Priest of our calling 1 John 5:19-20 ESV “We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one. And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.” ~ John the Lord’s Apostle The Word has been spoken. It will not return empty. Do not be dull of hearing. Jesus is alive. Those who hear His voice and believe have eternal Life. Love God, love people, shine, shine His Light Maranatha |

Jesus repeatedly confronted religious leaders who had the Scriptures, the traditions, and the appearance of orthodoxy, yet could not (or would not) receive the plain truth standing in front of them. Matthew 13:13-15 (quoting Isaiah 6:9-10) “This is why I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand… For this people’s heart has grown dull, and with their ears they can barely hear, and their eyes they have closed.” ~ Jesus the Apostle and High Priest of our calling Mark 8:17-18 “Do you not yet perceive or understand? Are your hearts hardened? Having eyes do you not see, and having ears do you not hear?” ~ Jesus the Apostle and High Priest of our confession Matthew 15:14: “Let them alone; they are blind guides. And if the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit.” ~ Jesus John 9:39-41 After healing the man born blind, Jesus said, “For judgment I came into this world, that those who do not see may see, and those who see may become blind.” The Pharisees asked, “Are we also blind?” Jesus answered, “If you were blind, you would have no guilt; but now that you say, ‘We see,’ your guilt remains.” Matthew 23 ~ Jesus the Son of Man The entire chapter of woes against the scribes and Pharisees who shut the kingdom of heaven in people’s faces, strain out a gnat and swallow a camel, and clean the outside while remaining full of greed and self-indulgence. These rebukes are not aimed only at first-century Pharisees. They apply to any religious posture Catholic, Protestant, or otherwise that elevates tradition, institutional claims, or secondary dogmas above the clear apostolic gospel and then treats those who refuse the addition as incomplete or dangerous. When repeated, plain statements of the gospel are met with “your question remains unanswered” or demands for an extra-biblical authority, the pattern Jesus confronted is visible again here in this forum: hearing without understanding, seeing without perceiving The message is not “against Catholics.” It is for every person in the world, the gospel of Jesus Christ is sufficient. Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved. Anything that adds a requirement(s) the apostles never preached risks the same dullness Jesus rebuked/corrected. |

And your claim is that the Catholic Church is doing this, yes? You repeatedly reject the clear teachings of Jesus brought to us by the Apostles on a daily basis in this very forum, and you want to call other's hearts hardened? So let's say for the sake of argument you are right. And that it matters. What are the implications of that? The Church fell into error almost immediately after Jesus ascended. God let that error continue for 1500 plus years. 1500 years of Christians are in hell. The Holy Spirit did not lead the Church into all truth. The Holy Spirit did not need to lead the Church into all truth because it was all revealed already. Protestant revolutionaries founded better churches than Jesus and the Apostles did. Jesus was a liar. |
