On an OBD-II vehicle, if the "Check Engine" light is on, is that an automatic NO-GO?

Dont even bother going until you have that corrected.  It's an auto fail.  They will tell you what it is, but so can an auto parts place....for free  It's probably some O2 sensor thing.

Really?
I don't know if it was OBDII, I had a 99 suburban and they let me go with the check engine light on.
They looked up the code and it was for the Ignition Control Module.

Do yall have emissions testing to because that is harsh. I thought Va had some dumb inspection laws.

Depends on were you live. My aftermarket EMS on my turbo car throws a oxygen sensor code all the time and it passes.

they also caught wise to people clearing the codes prior to going for an inspection.
There is a flag for code cleared that doesn't go away for like 50 miles of driving. If they get that you fail as well.

As a retired ASE master ive gone round& round with my state[western or]  DEQ people. Some of them are dumb as a box of hammers.OBII will set a code just by not having the gas cap tight or other less than critical area. The need for testing is less in late models. It has becoe a sorce of income to build bike paths and such.
